#113902 Should AE change to ICAO codes?

Posted by Obelix on 27 May 2012 - 02:27 PM in Suggestions and Feature Requests

IATA codes are used for for airline timetables and ICAO codes are used for flight planning, air traffic control, and weather reporting. If an airport doesn't have a IATA code it will most likely have little to no commercial traffic, and if there is it's most likely to be small scale domestic or charter traffic, and will not appear in any reservation system.

My bad, I meant to quote Obelix.

What's the quote you meant for me and not for Kate?

#111173 WestAir

Posted by Obelix on 05 May 2012 - 06:55 PM in R6-2 Archive

If I let a direct competitor who has something to gain by taking over WestAir and then taking it apart ...........take over WestAir then that would be my silly mistake.
But I'm not going to do that.
I'm looking for someone who has little or no hope of getting to the top with the airline they have right now.
And WestAir is the only airline based in Denver which has a volume of 52m.

And I'm not quite sure what you mean by more rationalized, also I don't have hubs........ I use terminals.

Probably the best indicator of how successful an airline is would be how much money it makes and WestAir was the first airline in R6 to buy, not lease it's aircraft and at the same time the first big airline to build a terminal, this was done while I was still leasing all the aircraft models from Boeing and Airbus.
I had too much cash building up and I decided either I start leasing Russian aircraft too or start buying instead of leasing from Boeing and Airbus.

By rationalized I meant using a Hub and Spoke or Point to Point business model and using the least number of aircraft types for it.

BTW, terminals are great to reduce costs however HUBs give you connecting pax with fellow alliance members.

#111171 Pending Delivery List "Select All" Function

Posted by Obelix on 05 May 2012 - 06:34 PM in Suggestions and Feature Requests

Having a "Select All" function in the Pending Delivery List, just like in the Routes and Aircraft lists might be helpful.

Nope. It'll be 'cleaned'.

LOL, "Cleaning" or "deleting" posts is a common practice in SG :) I used to defend SG when I was a member. Thankfully I'm no longer an SG member.. Bashing someone about grammar to reject an app isn't within me.

:giggle: Obelix, now you're waging war on two fronts: Royen, and us.

Moreover MidwestFrontier Holdings if you use terms like "No, not with that grammar and writing." to decline an application to " Everyone's Alliance" it's a bit shady.

Most likely this post will be deleted.

I think I have changed it :S

Thanks Royen, seems like you've done so.

Don't know what you mean about war MidwestFrontier Holdings.

Royen, please qoute my posts in full, editing a post gives way to misunderstanding on the message tried to be conveyed.

I'm just a little confused why an alliance is doing this! These things that you are planning to do aren't related at all the SkyGroup so I'm confused :S

Mate, SkyGroup is everyones alliance. or so states to be.

Most likely my posts will be wiped out :)

#111026 WestAir

Posted by Obelix on 05 May 2012 - 12:18 AM in R6-2 Archive

Mate, if WestAir has all the assets you mention it will be most likely torn apart to make way for another airline with a more rationalized fleet, hub and route map. Just my 2 cents as a fellow alliance member.

Neither. It's just a project to try and improve the horrible condition of the AE wiki.

Great intentions mate, hope it comes through.

Got a notification about this post so I guess I'm invited to comment. QK knows why I stepped down and left SG.

In a nutshell about this post. Are you trying to fix what MF replied to JIG203 after trying to trademark the "Everyone's Alliance" slogan

:hmmph: No, not with that grammar and writing.

Plus, with no airlines and your newness, I'm afraid we're going to have to turn you away.

Or are you now trying to satisfy everyone else who objected your slogan after that post.

No clear direction mate. It's a wild goose chase.

#110314 What is flying on VATSIM like?

Posted by Obelix on 29 April 2012 - 02:17 AM in Flight Simulation

Flying in VATSIM is very close to flying under IFR or VFR rules with ATC service without a PPL or CPL license in real life. As long as you follow the procedures published in the ARTCC/FIR website of your liking you shouldn't have any issues. Also, if you pick a time when traffic is slow at the airport of your liking, the controller will most likely help you out on getting started.

#109932 Love it, or hate it? The all new Virgin Atlantic Upper Class.

I believe the IFS screen comes out on a hinge. The problem isn't the IFS, it's having to crane your neck sideways to look out the window.

Perhaps the window also has a hinge :)

#109519 747-8i

Posted by Obelix on 21 April 2012 - 03:58 PM in O1-2 Archive

As per the Type Certificate the 747-400 is certified for 660 pax and the 747-8 is certified for 605 pax.

Max certified seats doesn't mean that your pax will be happy if you fly them like sardines in a can :)

#109517 Airport International Clerance Status, Hours of Operation, and Elevation.

Posted by Obelix on 21 April 2012 - 03:31 PM in Suggestions and Feature Requests

Perhaps the international clearance status of an airport could be included in the political restrictions list to limit international flights from airports that don't have the clearance.

Airport hours of operation and curfew hours could be used when the timetable feature is implemented.

Including airport elevation would impact the runway requirements of all aircraft. The runway requirements at Qamdo Bamda Airport (IATA: BPX, ICAO: ZUBD) are very different from the runway requirements at Bar Yehuda Airfield (IATA: MTZ, ICAO: LLMZ). Airport elevation also limits the operational takeoff weight.

All the information required to implement these features is available at:

#108387 IFS Reputations

Posted by Obelix on 13 April 2012 - 03:03 PM in Rδ-1 Archive

Making a profitable IFS is possible but some consider it a scam. As for the green bar on the IFS reputation, it's a combination of the rating of the IFE and IFS you use.

#107562 Aircraft Hours Pooling / Fleet Management

Posted by Obelix on 06 April 2012 - 03:12 AM in Suggestions and Feature Requests

You would need to tackle the issue of location as Yuxi pointed out. Airlines aren't in favor of dead-heading aircraft, and that takes time, anyways.

Aircraft bases it tied to reducing maintenance, crew, facility, etc... expenditure. I would love to see AE ultimately work its way to airlines building and placing maintenance bases, crew bases, etc...

Have lived,IRL, delays from not having a replacement aircraft out base to expecting a replacement aircraft. Good for me it wasn't a business trip :)

Something like that. When I played Airline Tycoon back in the late 1990's and early 2000's at least there was a guy to go to to buy used aircraft, build new aircraft, maintain a fleet, schedule flights, build gates, etc. That's in the animation game past, now we're 0's and 1's on a database :)
