Having seen what I have seen of carriers from 3 different continents, it's a very complicated answer.
So I am summarising it in very general terms.
European Legacy Carriers
Asian Legacy Carriers
American Legacy Carriers
American carriers are just behind the curve in both hard and soft product and general efficiency. They are also quite expensive. Asian carriers are generally better in product, mostly because they have to be to avoid poor brand image, and European carriers have to be conscious of customer image, thus most make sure their product is good. Basically, American carriers do not have to worry about image as much, because many of the smaller routes are monopolised.

KEJE/EJE is taking offers to lease gates! KEJE/EJE will open for service in the near future, as plans are being finalized as this announcement is made. Contact me via PM for more information.
Please extend the runway to 12500 feet. We shall move all Chicago services to this airport if this runway is built to such length

I like this... like a lot. It's a very nice livery although it does look like a American LCC A little
Spirit?
Also, these liveries are a good start, font excluded. Keep it up (Evolve Branding being addressed here)

So why can't you just add in competition on smaller monopoly routes?
I think the legacy carriers have divided the turf there, and there is not enough demand, especially on the REALLY small routes that would not support 2 or ideally even 3 airlines.

I would say the cut off is around 800 miles. Beyond 800, the speed benefits of the E170 are significant (1h36 vs 2h for the q400). Which by my calculation allows about 15% more flights per aircraft than a Q400 would give.

Tired of basic scam IFS? Want to be less cruel? Then try this, which makes over $600 a passenger!
Name: Mega Profit
Food: Same as Scam IFS (1 star, max price)
Accessories: Everything free except comfort kits ($30) and souvenirs ($50).
Profit: $608, a bit worse than scam ($687)
Stars: 2 (like most carriers economy)
Yes, cruel, but is a bit better (still avoid if you want to be a luxury airline, and don't give to C/F or long haul >2500mi passengers), and miles ahead of 3 stars.
The masterstroke is passengers love free magazines, pillows etc more than food.
Here is a comparison:
By the way this was on Whippers (R7). I can now get mega profit on short haul and maintain high rep.
Other good IFS to consider:
For 3 star realistic IFS, have 3 snacks free at 3 stars and pillows, blankets, childrens pack all for free, only costs $8 per pax)
And for 4 star IFS for cheap, NOT the best, have 3 snacks free at 4 stars, and everything in accessories for free, only costs <$100 per pax)
For 1 star Scam IFE, do 1 TV per 100 seats at 1 quality and have ads every 1 min AND charge $30.
Any others I missed? Please comment!
I think this is entirely the wrong approach for the direction this community is going in, which is more realism based for members who have forum accounts.
Also, there is a glitch where you can reduce the price to $0 and run that, and it will likely be 5 star rated. If not, go back to $30 and then back down again. If you still want to charge, $2-5 will still give between 3 and 4 stars.

So that basically means there's no more room for new airlines in the US, correct?
And also, why is it hard for US legacy airlines to ensure staff consistency?
It doesn't quite mean there isn't room, it is that there is insufficient demand. An airline could start up on this route and completely destroy United by offering massively superior service. Meanwhile, United ducks out. And we are back to square one again, and this airline can now exploit the market like united did

I'm indifferent, I really have no personal need for such an aircraft, but I certainly see a market for it.
Survey: Should Islander develop a shortened I600?
It will be in direct competition with the A319neo, 737 MAX 7, and CS300. It will be slightly smaller than the I500 but can fly 7,500km. Target customers would be full service carriers on long and thin routes, hot & high airports and corporate charters. There will also be an ICJ business jet version.
SPECIFICATIONS
MODEL Max cap. 1-class Range
I510 150 130 4,400km
I6X 160 140 7,500km
I500 180 150 3,800km
I600 200 180 6,200km
I620 250 200 6,600km
I700 270 230 9,500km
I730 300 260 8,000km
As long as fuel economy increases accordingly and payload isn't significantly affected compared to not shortened aircraft. Some payload sacrifice at the top end range would be fine but obviously a miracle would be nice.
As you can see, I do not understand basic physics (:-)

AE currently has around 63000 members, out of which I estimate (possibly incorrectly) that around 25000 are active players (people who logon to AE at least once in a week, or have an active airline). If each of these people paid out a flat $2 sum, that would likely cover all the costs for a second developer for 2-3 months. At relatively insignificant expense to each player. However, I would expect payments to end there, since otherwise things will get out of hand

I use 6 4 star snacks for $8, and free pillows and blankets, along with $2 newspaper. Makes $21 per passenger, which is quite decent.

And a 4 star that only costs $40 per passenger. Free 4 star snacks. All accessories except headphones, and charging $36 for souvenirs, brings a 4 star rating.

Exactly the point I'm making, something that everyone could offer, even just once, would do a world of difference.
I agree.

Blame Jimmy Carter for creating this mess in our aviation market
Deregulation of the market was in Jimmy Carter time?
