#63268 [Resolved] Month change happend twice
Posted by Elchie on 04 July 2009 - 08:07 PM in Bugs
yeah - it could be the case that nobody got profits out of the 1st May due to strange side effects off the uncomplete month change before.
Thats bad - thats true, but the positive thing is: The bug I fixed before was another, bigger one. So in the last (real) months the revenues for days 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 and 30 were never payed out, which I corrected today. So due to the bug you (perhaps, didn't checked it) didn't get something for one day, but you get something for 6 days the first time. So dont worry about one day
#63264 [Resolved] Month change happend twice
Posted by Elchie on 04 July 2009 - 07:58 PM in Bugs
Now, the daily script will call the month-change script if the day is bigger then 24 - so on the next scheduled run, the monthly script was called again - this resulted into the mentioned problems (aircraft delivery, gate removal).
With the current dump of the real database I was able to reproduce the problem, due to increasing the maximum execution time and two optimizations (for example on month change the valuation of all players was recalculated twice which costs much time) this issue is now solved for the future.
But now the bad news: I would be able to un-deliver the additional delivered aircraft, yeah it would take some time, but with the gates there is a problem. The only inidication of gate removals exists in the users mailboxes (with a certain timestamp). But in this messges only the airport not the number of gates is mentioned, so I'm able only to give one gate back to players - sorry for that.

In the future you should be able to bargain with the manufacturer about the delivery date (this will affect the price, yeah ). So ordering aircrafts will get more flexible, you have to plan better when ordering aircrafts.

Additional to that aircrafts sold by other airlines will be get onto the used market with time (not instantly, there is a randomly selected clean time).
#63208 Question on Oneway restriction
Posted by Elchie on 03 July 2009 - 02:37 PM in Game Discussion (SIM2)
(But, it is just me, but how can you start out at XYZ and finish up the other end of the earth the aircraft has to get back to it original departure point to continue it next flight.....thats what I cant understand)
First that was also my thought, but be flexible. Just a example pattern:
LHR - FRA- FCO - ATH - DXB
These flights are all one ways - so how will the plane get back from DXB to LHR? In this case go away from "it will fly the routes in this order and this direction"-thing. Just imagine: The a/c will be over night in DXB and on the second day all routes will be flewn in the vice versa direction.
So with the mentioned pattern a week for the a/c will look like:
Day 1: LHR-FRA-FCO-ATH-DXB -> Stay in DXB over night
Day 2: DXB-ATH-FCO-FRA-LHR -> Stay in LHR over night
Day 3: LHR-FRA-FCO-ATH-DXB -> Stay in DXB over night
Day 4: DXB-ATH-FCO-FRA-LHR -> Stay in LHR over night
Day 5: LHR-FRA-FCO-ATH-DXB -> Stay in DXB over night
Day 6: DXB-ATH-FCO-FRA-LHR -> Stay in LHR over night
Day 7: LHR-FRA-FCO-ATH-DXB -> Stay in DXB over night
...
In the current system there is now difference in load factors/prices related to the direction. It doesn't matter if you plan a one-way LHR-FRA or FRA-LHR - you will get the same profit. Having this in mind, the "swap direction"-rule for one-way-patterns on every second day is applicable

By the way: BPpH is just an information and won't be used in the calculation of costs for routes (just fuel cost and labor cost will be used then).
#63191 Question on Oneway restriction
Posted by Elchie on 03 July 2009 - 10:44 AM in Game Discussion (SIM2)
@lurch: Mention: Order doesn't matter right know in the system (we have no schedule at this time), so the flights should be connected together somehow, my order was just a list and doesn't affect the system in any way. So the example is valid, the order of routes doesn't matter.
#63150 Question on Oneway restriction
Posted by Elchie on 02 July 2009 - 10:53 AM in Game Discussion (SIM2)
- One specific aircraft can only start one one-way trip out of a specific airport
- All flights must be connected together
The first case will be prevented by the route-creation-page automatically, in the second case the aircraft will be grounded until all flights are connected again.
Few examples.
Rule 1 - valid:
- Roundtrip LHR - FRA - LHR
- One-way LHR - DUB
- Roundtrip FRA - MUC
Rule 1 - invalid constellation (will be prevented by the system, if current flights breaking the rule, the aircraft will be grounded):
- Roundtrip LHR - FRA - LHR
- One-way LHR - DUB
- One-way LHR - GLA
Only one one-way out of LHR is allowed.
Rule 2 valid:
- Roundtrip LHR - FRA
- Roundtrip FRA - ZRH
- One-Way ZRH - MXP
- One-Way MXP - FCO
Note: On every second day the one-ways will be reverted, so the a/c flights first back from FCO to MXP, then from MXP to ZRH and then it will go on the round trips - so two one-ways are not a problem.
Rule 2 - invalid:
- Roundtrip LHR - FRA
- One-Way ZRH - MXP
- One-Way MXP - FCO
There is no connection between FRA and ZRH, when creating routes in a batch you can not generate such a pattern. But in the current mode you can create a network as in the valid example and thereafter delete the FRA-ZRH flight and you get the network mentioned in the invalid example, but the aircraft is still working.
In the new mode: When deleting a flight and getting a "not connected" network for an aircraft, the aircraft will be grounded and generates no profit.
#63078 Question on Oneway restriction

will bring in a system message soon.
For clarification: The one-way restriction is based on a single aircraft, so you can put several aircrafts on the same route as one-way. There was a bug preventing this, I fixed this today.
To prevent further cheating with multiple aircraft instead of one I will introduce a "connected flight system" soon. So right know the following is possible but not allowed:
- Create a one way FRA-TXL
- Create a one way TXL - MUC
- Create a flight (one way doens't matter) MUC-ZRH
- Remove the TXL - MUC flight
Now there is no connection between TXL and MUC, but the system accepts it without an y cost right now. This could lead into one-way cheating.
The new "connected system" introduced soon will prevent this - if you delete a flight that connects other flight, the aircraft will be grounded until a connection is established again
Just to say it again: Deleting a "connecting" flight is against the rules, but is tolerated by the system.
#63035 [In Progress] Fuel bug
Posted by Elchie on 01 July 2009 - 10:35 AM in Bugs
I think the fuel calculation is not correct. So right know it works this way
flow = engines x (tsfc x thrust) x (1+ageFactor)
[ageFactor is depending on aircrafts age, right now its something around 0.008 or so, minimal value]
Required fuel is then calculated this way:
fuel = ((distance/speed) x flow + flow )* 2
(+ flow = fuel reserve for taxi, take-off, landing)
(*2 = roundtrip)
In your 457nm example this means:
- tsfc B717-200 in the database: 0.37
- thrust: 21000
- speed: 442
flow = 2 x (0.37 x 21000) = 15540 [ignoring the age factor for the example]
fuel = ((457/442) x 15540 + 15540) x 2 = 63214
The problem here is: The data within the database comes up with the TSFC at full power, but usually the flight is not operated within full throttle, so this will result in exploding fuel requirements.
Any idea how to calculate the tsfc/thrust down to cruise-power? Or any idea of a better calculation-mode?

#62938 Hub/Connecting traffic
Posted by Elchie on 29 June 2009 - 08:42 PM in Announcements
As of 3:20PM CDT Cloud admins are seeing intermittent connectivity issues with our DFW Data Center cluster. We are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and will update the status post as we have more information.
Should not take too long, but the servers are still working - its just the connection to outside.
Before the connection got into trouble I added all routes going from or to a hub to the list for recalculation, so when the connection problems are solved there should be all hub-related routes up to date and there will be connecting traffic.
