AMR AVIATION NEWS:
Islander Aerospace inches towards I600
Islander releases drawings of its first clean sheet design, the medium range narrowbody I600. The I600 family is the ASEAN aerospace conglomerate's project that campaigns the region to be a dominant player in the aircraft manufacturing industry of the world and sealing the region's place as an industrial powerhouse. The aviation market demands 22,900 new single aisle aircraft from 2017-2035 and much of the growth will come from low-cost carriers. The I600 is perfectly situated in the 199 seat capacity. This maximizes the flight attendants necessary to operate the flight. It is also large enough to maximize the size classification "C" which are abundant in many of the world's LCC hubs.
The I600 will have two engine options: the new geared Pratt & Whitney 1000G turbofans and the Harriett H140 turbofans which is a new engine being developed by the same parent company of Islander. Both feature the latest in jet engine technology and promises to reduce fuel consumption by 12-15% against the previous generation of engines. The aircraft also features improved aerodynamic structures including wings with an impressive aspect ratio of 13.05. This also improves fuel efficiency by reducing drag. The new wings allows the plane to fly faster and further than aircraft of similar size currently in the market.
