For whatever reason, I've always had a really tough time with Uzbekistan & Mongolia. Not too sure why though.

Almost every central Asian country and Mongolia are hard to operate, most of their airports aren't busy enough. So the demand of passengers is low.

the question was literally "Which country should I try to operate out of that would be most difficult (not accounting for competition)?" and y'all are talking about how the us uk and china have lots of competition

No, but Indochine is French.

French Indochina was the old colony. Today made up of Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, etc.

To be honest I wouldn’t be surprised if it was possible to operate and make a profit anywhere in the world.

My first successful airline was in the U.S, but still, it's a land of competition and spamliners.

It’s sad to see a regional airport in Eastern Europe have 34 million passengers and over 900 destinations #spamliners but what can one do.

It’s kinda good if an airline hasn’t over 500ish planes because they don’t usually pay attention to their routes so you can do a mini invasion just about anywhere

If we are going to factor in competition, any large country with regional airports that have good demand like China, Japan, and the US. You may include the EU because of the open skies agreement in 2000.

If not including, I'd say any country that has one airport in it where the lease is expensive or not much demand. Like Singapore, Hong Kong and Tuvalu as an example.

Another, are countries that are far away from large cities like NZ and Australia. (I know australia has Sydney but it requires an ULR aircraft to connect Sydney to London or US)

Any country with only one major airport - you must rely (nearly) entirely upon international destinations, and those can be costly.
