To be fair, this is what you get for thinking supersonic airliners make any sense.

The 787-8 is the better plane, but it might be more important to get in a bulk order sooner. You decide what your priorities are.

A340 is terrible in almost all statistics, the only real good element is high range which I don’t think is enough to make up for everything else. It also takes away A330 delivery slots, so it’s really not worth it. I usually get both the A330 and 777 because they can be delivered at the same time and both are relatively good aircraft.

Do not listen to this. The A340-300 is probably the best long-range aircraft at launch, and is only worth phasing out after 777-200ER deliveries begin. If you operate an airline at that scale, it doesn't matter.

Use both because the delivery capacities are gimped so to effectively expand, both deliveries is better.

It literally doesn't matter. Just go with whichever one fits your current fleet.

Anything between the A310/757 and the A330/777 is fine. I'd personally go for an A300.

 

Try something like the Avro RJ100 or CRJ-900/1000
Or the A318.  
Or the ERJ-175/195
Basically any regional jet that has somewhere in the ballpark of 75-150 seats.

 

OP specifies high-demand routes. Regional aircraft have far too little capacity.

This is called spamlining. Players have been using it for years, and it allows them to easily reach the top of leaderboards with ease.

 

There has always been outrage over the use of spamlining, but at this point, it's not going to go away any time soon given that the game is no longer really updated.

 

I suggest you simply accept the existence of spamlining and play the game for your own enjoyment as best you can.

How do you all choose the "right" engine?  Sorry if someone already posted about this before. Thanks!

 

There are only really two incentives:

 

1. Average fuel flow (like you mentioned), and

2. Roleplay.

 

Otherwise, it doesn't really matter that much.
