I am about to start a new airline in S4B from 2000 to 2020, with the time in game currently being late 2011, and aiming for a strong long haul and good capacity short haul fleet. The 787 seems to be very good investment but bulk ordering the type might not possible because delivery is stretching over 2021 for my bulk. I am thinking of the A330-200 as a replacement, but don't know the economy impact compare to the 787.

The maximum range of the A330-200 is much shorter, if that makes any difference. Minimum runway length is similar if you choose the best engine options.

The 787-8 is the better plane, but it might be more important to get in a bulk order sooner. You decide what your priorities are.

The 787-8 is much newer so naturally is more efficient and has better statistics, but both are good aircraft.
