I am wondering which is better, to me it seems like the A330 has the 777 beat in everything except leasing cost and speed, but I am seeing people go for the 777-200 over the A330 or A340-300. Why is that?

A330-300 or 777-200(Not the ER)

if i recall correctly (its been a while since i operated either one) the 777 is more efficient to operate, but i could be wrong and they are just being stupid or sentimental. its also not a huge difference, and if you already operate another 777 variant, then maintence is hugely cheaper to get the 777-200 then an A330.

It literally doesn't matter. Just go with whichever one fits your current fleet.

Some people (& airlines) live by the mantra "if it's not a Boeing, I'm not going." This is most common in Boeing's native country, not to mention any names.
Personally I prefer Airbus for both their culture & the products they produce.
In the game, the A330-300 is very expensive but the A340-300 is remarkably cheaper for the same capacity. Probably has higher maintenance costs with it's 4 engines but if you can afford either, who cares?
There's nothing wrong with the B777-200 but the B777-300 is more fuel efficient per seat. The only downsize of the -300 is that it requires a much longer runway than the -200.
At the end of day it really doesn't matter. use whichever you like, or both.

A340 is terrible in almost all statistics, the only real good element is high range which I don’t think is enough to make up for everything else. It also takes away A330 delivery slots, so it’s really not worth it. I usually get both the A330 and 777 because they can be delivered at the same time and both are relatively good aircraft.

I use both and I love them! I love that the -200 has a super short runway usage. I can take it most everywhere including places with shorter runways like OGG, LIH, Etc.
I use the A330-300 for a lot of transatlantic and US-south America. I use the 200ER as soon as it’s available. But it still leaves plenty of time to order the 200 standard while I wait for the ER
if you have to choose one or the other my vote in the 777 based on flexibility. Short runway of 200 range of 200ER & LR and capacity of 300ER.

Typically I am using both. Typically using the 777 for the longer routes because it is faster than 330. My typical layout is the same in the game for both aircraft.

Use both because the delivery capacities are gimped so to effectively expand, both deliveries is better.

Do not listen to this. The A340-300 is probably the best long-range aircraft at launch, and is only worth phasing out after 777-200ER deliveries begin. If you operate an airline at that scale, it doesn't matter.

This is probably the best approach.
