#25133 Month change glitch

Posted by ziliu on 11 December 2005 - 07:31 PM in Bugs

No, travelhouse: A month is the time that elapses from say 1st Jan to 1st Feb.

Between the 1st Jan and 24th Jan, 23 days pass. Then another day passes between 24th Jan and 1st Feb, for a 24-day month in total.

(Who the hell cares anyways? :()

To Aerospaceair:

The reason for why AE has a 24-day month is probably because one AE day corresponds to one hour IRL, and by having 24 days in one AE month, the AE month conveniently corresponds to one day IRL. This way, if say you've figured out that you'll have earned enough money to buy an aircraft you want in 5 AE month, you directly know that this is in 5 days IRL. If the months were't 24 hours, it would take more time to convert between AE time and real life time.

#23416 What screen resolution do you use?

Posted by ziliu on 27 November 2005 - 08:06 PM in Off Topic

Ah I remember those old days when 800 x 600 pixels was considered a high resolution, don't you too?

Now those days are long gone, but I'm curious on how far techonology has moved now. So I thought I'd create a useless poll to find out.

It's simple, just select your screen resolution. If none of the poll options fits your resolution, just select the one that matches most closely.

#20184 Aircraft Depreciation?

Posted by ziliu on 30 October 2005 - 05:25 PM in Game Discussion (SIM2)

No you are not. You're paying for the aircraft when you first buy it. But at that time, the aircraft cost is not shown in your accounting, but it is spread out over time as "Aircraft Depreciation".

#20138 Aircraft Depreciation?

It is taken from the company value not the company cash account. It's just that page being a little unclear.

What will be nicer, in my opinion, is that instead of ranting at each other in all caps maybe you could direct them in the right way, like this:

See http://airlineempire...ad.php?tid=1878, please.

Sometimes the search results can be hard to go trough if you're question can be expressed using many different words or when the topic was last brought up a very long time ago.

#18442 Blue Eagle Alliance releases interactive route map

Posted by ziliu on 14 October 2005 - 07:25 PM in Alliances

In order to give the other alliances a fair chance of finding out how much larger we are than them, Blue Eagle Alliance today released an interactive route map for all to enjoy. The route map can be found on the Blue Eagle Alliance website, at http://bea.xmgfree.c...p?page=routemap. Furthermore, the route map will hereforth be updated on an hourly bases so the other alliances can not only find out how much bigger we are, but also how rapidly we are outgrowing them. ;)

Cheers! And check back on our website often!

PS. If you want to join the Blue Eagle Alliance, you can always drop a note in our forum, located at http://bea.xmgfree.com/boards. :P

As far as I've understood, AE keeps track of every IP that has logged in to a certain airline to prevent aircraft feeding. But this might just mean that if you mail around your password to your alliance partners and log into each other's accounts you might just, after some time, end up with a situation where you can't sell aircraft between the airlines within your alliance.

now why did you have to go and ruin all the fun! I was looking forward to all of their screams for help when they could no longer sale planes to each other! :P:P

Lol, true, but I'm not that evil-minded you see. ;)

#17852 AE City Searcher (Current version: 0.4.0.4)

Posted by ziliu on 10 October 2005 - 06:44 PM in Game Discussion (SIM2)

Lol Maestro. :P Well everybody, new version (0.4.0.4) of the program out. Rainbow, your suggestions been implemented. And Dublin, Edinburgh and Glasgow have been placed where they should be. See first post in this thread, that has been edited.

Thanks for all the compliments everyone.

Dublin, Edinburgh and Glasgow apparently all seem wrong. I'm in school now and don't have access to the program, but I'll check it when I get home. It's probably because somebody(i.e. me) entered the coordinates wrong or something.

#17656 AE City Searcher (Current version: 0.4.0.4)

Posted by ziliu on 09 October 2005 - 07:37 PM in Game Discussion (SIM2)

Okay, this is a small program I made and I'd like to share. It displays all cities in AE within a given distance from a given city, sorted by distance.:P Hard to explain, see screenshot below instead. Well anyways, the distance is now given in statute miles.

As of version 0.4.0.4, you can now enter a minimum distance and a maximum distance, and the program will show all gates whose distance to the chosen city is between the two values.

Note that you still can leave the first box empty and enter 500 in the second box, this would give you all cities within 500 miles distance from the chosen city. Or you can leave the second box empty and write 500 in the first box, this would give you all cities whose distance to your chosen city is more than 500 miles.

As of version 0.4.0.4, the locations of the previously misplaced cities of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dublin have been corrected.

Many thanks go to styloboy for helping collecting the city data!

#17652 Distance Databse

Posted by ziliu on 09 October 2005 - 06:52 PM in Game Discussion (SIM2)

Okay, I found what's wrong actually. See the thread I just started in the Bugs section.

Or, if you're too lazy to do that I'll just tell you that what is says in plain English is that my program's right and AE's wrong. :) But since the program is supposed to be a tool for AE, I suppose AE's always, per se, right. *sigh* So yes, I'll make a new version of the program. In the meantime, just multiply the values claimed by my program with 1.15078 and you should get the AE distance. :P

(It's all right watchdog, we need to help in together creating a useful program, don't we? Many thanks for pointing out the distances were wrong, otherwise I'd never have seen that myself!)

Edit: Okay, I thought I'd start a new tidier thread with the current version in the top of the thread. See http://www.airlineem...ad.php?tid=4421 for new version of the program.

#17650 Distances in AE, nautical mile versus statue mile

Posted by ziliu on 09 October 2005 - 06:50 PM in Bugs

Yes, I am very well aware of that this is definitely not top priority etc etc, but I'm posting this anyway since this caused a great deal of confusion for me:

On for instance http://www.airlineem...1=CPH&city2=ARN, AE claims that the great circle distance between CPH and ARN is 343 nautical miles. This is simply not true, the distance is rather somewhere between 298 and 299 miles. Though it is actually 343 statute miles.

(The "Distance Calcuator" also gives a value of 343, stating the unit is "miles". Since the figures on the routeshare.php pages and the distance calculator have always been the same, I've always assumed the Distance Calculator also calculates in nautical miles. Until today, that is. :)

The suggestion would be to make clear on the pages which unit is being referred to.

Now I don't know in what units the aircraft speeds are given, they're claimed to be knots on the engine selection page (i.e. nm/h), but who the hell knows? What I was concerned with was that if they actually were knots, the entire calculations of how long time an aircraft will take to fly a certain route would be wrong. (No scale factor is multiplied into the value, I check that. The game simply takes distance (in miles) divided by speed (supposedly in knots) and takes that as the flight time in hours.)

Which of course, again, is not the highest priority now. Etc etc. I know the deal. But I'm surprised nobody's noticed this before, or, at least not mentioned it. (Yes, I used the search button. :()

Well that's all for now, now I'm to re-write the City Searcher. :P

Could you please give examples of where the distance is incorrect, so I can look into it?
