#271209 EuroViation 2018 - Airline Branding Contest

Posted by Ryan_D96 on 08 August 2018 - 09:39 PM in Logo / Livery Requests

Edit: about political messages, I'm not aware too much of the way private entities display the support of this or that social issue in Scotland (or in the UK in general), so I won't get into that debate. If the player feels it is realistic, why not.

I do agree though that common sense should prevail before posting anything that might spark debate.

It was never my intention to 'spark a political debate'.

All I wanted to do was post an entry for this competition.

I have spent time crafting a backstory and creating a corporate personality to give my airline depth in a way that AE cannot. The fact that I made it relevant across political issues in the present and past, like many companies do, was not me trying to start up an independence or LGBT rights debate...

Posted by Ryan_D96 on 01 July 2018 - 09:43 PM in Designer Showcase

I quite like the concept of America Central but the colours could do with a bit of tweaking.

As for Globespan, I prefer the livery of the real defunct airline :P

#269824 Highest Profit A320?

Posted by Ryan_D96 on 01 July 2018 - 09:34 PM in General AE Discussion

It's not an A320 but my LCC has a $9.4m / month 737-800.

It's in a 189Y config with 12 hour daily utilisation.

Its costs would be the equivalent of an A320 with CFM56-5A3 engines :P

#268993 Unknown symbol in Routes listing

Posted by Ryan_D96 on 03 June 2018 - 10:17 PM in General AE Discussion

Just a helpful tip, if you're struggling with profitability it may be due to your vast number of aircraft families.

Try streamlining your fleet to help reduce these costs :P

#268851 737 SFP

Posted by Ryan_D96 on 30 May 2018 - 11:07 PM in New Players and Questions

I believe by ordering the most powerful engine variant of the 738 in-game, this is, in effect, ordering the SFP model.

I'm not sure if that's right or not, my understanding of it is that it is modifications to wings, flaps, tail skid etc that increase the performance.

I can't find any solid figures though so I'm not much use. I just have a vested interest in seeing this added  :whistling:

Only stuff I can find is third party (all the Boeing links appear to be dead).

"It allows a 737-800 to achieve about the landing performance of a 737-700."

http://www.airliners...ic.php?t=759289

If the longest take-off distance for a 737-700 of 4,675ft was used that would be useful?

Due to AE's use of the distance at MTOW it restricts aircraft operations that happen in real life. E.G. Emirates operating a 773ER into GLA happens twice a day but is impossible in AE :P

Creating an SFP model would help counter this for the 738 as I feel that it is rather restricted in AE compared to the A320.

#268717 Livery Request (American National)

Posted by Ryan_D96 on 26 May 2018 - 01:44 PM in Logo / Livery Requests

I know you've already had a response to this but I took a liking to the branding you had and wanted to have a go. :P

I've altered the colours slightly as I thought the orange was just a bit much. So I toned it down a bit to try and soften harshness.

I've also got an idea for a modern version of the livery in mind if you'd like me to have a go at that too.

Anywho, here's my interpretation of it, let me know if you'd like any changes etc :)

#268699 Are the DAL restrictions still in effect?

Posted by Ryan_D96 on 25 May 2018 - 05:43 PM in New Players and Questions

So I came across this anomaly in R0:

They are operating an A321 out of DAL yet I can't operate an MD80 into DAL? Is this a bug or..?

#268489 Traffic & maintenance restrictions

Posted by Ryan_D96 on 21 May 2018 - 06:27 AM in Suggestions and Feature Requests

Physical traffic restrictions at airports

The average airliner uses roughly 1 minute for its takeoff roll. Add another 9 minutes for wake turbulence to disperse, and add on another 5 minutes due to other factors (weather, someone spilling the coffee all over ATC, late passengers, etc) and we get 672 departures/week. However, landings take much longer, so we can use the rather conservative rate of 1 arrival/departure every 15 minutes, which means the maximum amount of flights that a single airline can operate to an airport with 1 runway per week would be 336.

Why have independent restrictions for all airlines?
http://www.airline-e.../8161-atnt71eb/
Any more questions needed?

Passenger movement at connecting airports should also be limited, unless we are willing to accept that thousands (or millions) of passengers can disembark an aircraft, run through the terminal, which is many times past full capacity, due to the spam-like nature of some airlines, and board their connecting flight, without completely destroying the airport in a massive stampede that never ceases due to the constant flights.

Of course, 336 flight cycles/week is more than enough for most airlines, it would at least somewhat restrict the most extreme spamlines from earning a boatload of money from 30 mile hops.

Your logic is just flat out wrong?:

“Daily average air transport movements: 1,299”

https://www.heathrow...cts-and-figures

That’s a two runway airport. Your wake turbulence reasoning doesn’t hold water, I personally have been in a queue at Heathrow multiple times with aircraft departing in less than 2 minute/90 second intervals.

Widerøe operates the E2 as far as I’m aware?

#268411 A350 stuff

Posted by Ryan_D96 on 19 May 2018 - 06:00 PM in New Players and Questions

It’s because AE uses the exit limit for seating capacity. The a350-1000 needs a legroom boost because technically its maximum seating capacity is 440 due to exit limits.

However, an a350-1000 with 350 seats will have more legroom than an a350-900 with 350 seats. Currently AE has no way of representing this though.

#267182 How to increase On-time performance?

Posted by Ryan_D96 on 14 April 2018 - 10:32 AM in New Players and Questions

Aim for 8-12 hours daily utilisation (80-60 free hours per aircraft) on short-medium haul aircraft.

Long haul doesn't matter so much, I aim for around 12-16 per day depending on the route the aircraft flies. (60- 30 free hours per aircraft).

Have your staff morale as close to 100% as possible.

#267148 How to use the Metal Fuselage on Med's Templates?

Posted by Ryan_D96 on 13 April 2018 - 05:41 AM in Logo / Livery Requests

I just paint a white base layer on top of the metal fuselage (in the metal fuselage layer), leaving the amount of metal showing I want for the design.

#266974 Spamliners

Posted by Ryan_D96 on 08 April 2018 - 07:50 PM in General AE Discussion

A true spamliner shouldn’t impact on your load factor at all as they use all connecting pax. However, if this is an airline going for normal pax then engage in a drastic price war with them until the route prices are at ‘junk’ demand levels. Then you can reset your prices to the standard amount and get a full load factor.

#266636 I need help

Posted by Ryan_D96 on 29 March 2018 - 01:05 PM in Logo / Livery Requests

I don’t know how GIMP works, but I’m sure this is where masks come into play?
I use affinity and what I need to do is create a blank layer that is pinned to the fuselage, tail layer etc then the stuff you put on that layer is clipped to the fuselage/tail etc.
There is a GIMP tutorial pinned in the livery request section I think, that should explain it. :)

#266612 Free To Use Liveries

Posted by Ryan_D96 on 28 March 2018 - 08:11 PM in Logo / Livery Requests

I recently finished my dissertation for uni and wanted to put the decorative liveries I made to use. Instead of them sitting on my PC doing nothing (I don't run real world airlines) I thought I might as well let anyone use them if they want to.

I'm well aware these won't be up to the standards of AE's livery gurus but if anyone wants to use them, feel free to. :)

All liveries were made using Med's templates.

#266430 I've been thinking...

Posted by Ryan_D96 on 22 March 2018 - 10:55 AM in Off Topic

Couldn’t agree more, the statistics have shown the vast majority of accidents are caused by lack of driver attention. Be it phones, air conditioning, radios etc.

I fully support further increases in severity of penalties for drivers caught on their phones, especially HGV drivers. If someone kills another person because they are distracted by their phone and crash, I feel like the charge should be at least manslaughter.

That’s just my personal opinion though, I don’t mind people who speed, I do, so long as they give the road their full attention.
