Hello and welcome to the first edition of the EuroViation - Airline Branding Contest!
The goal of this contest is for AE's community to showcase the best of their work in a pan-European competition. Each participant is allowed to post a submission for the country of their choice. The entries are to present one airline (preferably with some national vibe) via its logo, its livery, maybe even some of its branding content.
A jury panel will gather at the end of the submission period to grade entries on a fully transparent scale described below. And the fun part, the public too will vote for their favourite submission, so be sure to gather the crowds!
Now, here are some ground rules, some more might be added later if deemed necessary:
- Anyone can take part, with only one submission per player.
- Contestants must pick a country of they choice amongst the list.
- Submissions must be posted on this thread. Please deactivate you signature when posting on here, as to ease reading.
- That's a tricky one: ONLY ONE SUBMISSION PER COUNTRY will be allowed, on a first come basis. This might be a bit tough, though the idea here is to expand the spectrum of airlines we see beyond the classic ones we've all seen a thousand times.
- So called "reservations" are not allowed. Please post your submission once it is complete, though you may edit your post to add/change some minor things during the entire opening period. We're asking for some fairplay here, girls and boys.
- You can post your entries from today (August 1st) till the end of the month (August 31, 23.59 UTC+1). It's summertime in Europe, some of you may be on holiday, and some of you will be disappointed that their first choice of country won't be available. This long entry period is designed so that you'll have time to work on a plan B.
- Since a part of the final grading will be from the public, it is allowed to comment on designs with constructive comments, but please keep it nice and quiet, ie no endless debates and personal attacks. These might result in a banning from competing.
- Jury members are allowed to take part, but they won't grade their own submission.
And here are come guidelines regarding the submissions:
- The country list is the following, based on nations that have taken part at some point in the popular EuroVison Song Contest : Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Morocco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom.
- A map of the countries taking part can be found here. Please note that Australia was not included as it recently was in the Southeast Asia and Oceania Design Competition. Also note that Andorra, Monaco and San Marino are also included in the list. Make your imagination work a bit.
- Please post at least a logo, a livery, a short description of the airline. You might include some other branding elements, a short story with some historical elements, or anything else you might see fit, just try to keep it not too long.
- For ease of use, please start your submission post with: Username, Country, Airline, Hub's IATA, IATA's airline code, ex: edge, Japan, Nippon Air, NRT, NP.
- Your airline has to be contemporary, ie it could be flying today.
- Your submission must be an original one, no re-use of something you have published before. No one will check, but please use some fairplay here.
- Airlines can be low-cost, full service, charter, anything really. But since this is a contest between countries, it must display some national identity, and not be a generic one (ex: easyjet, vueling do not convey a national identity). It can be a flag carrier or a regional one, that's up to you.
The airlines will be judged by a jury composed of Belgium., Namika, Oggey and myself, on the following points:
- Originality - a design that's as much your own as possible
- Realism & brand coherence - an airline that could possibly exist, a logo that's useable, a livery that matches
- Livery - attention to detail. Using med's templates is encouraged but not mandatory. To ease the jury's job, please post them full size.
- Fidelity - to the country it represents, use of the language if applicable
- The public vote, that will account for 20% of the final grade. It will take place at the end of the submission period.
Should you have any insightful question, please be sure that it isn't already answered on this post. If not, you can post it on here as it might help others.
Thanks to the members of the jury for their help setting this up.
And let your imagination run wild, let's hope the contest will bring the best of creativity.
Good luck to you all!
