#245585 What planes have you flown in?

Posted by zelalemon on 01 October 2017 - 08:44 PM in Real World Aviation

True - It was never Boeing's intention to have 3-3-3 on a 787 or 3-4-3 on a 777, or 3-4-3 on a 747. That was all the airlines. Same with 3-4-3 on the A350. It's sad what the airlines do to us passengers.

Its a balancing act: Make each seat wider to keep customers happier BUT charge more for tickets or add another seat and lower prices.

Can't do 787. British Airways used to fly twice daily into Philadelphia. Once with a 777 and the other with a 787. But recently British Airways closed one of those flights so it could be operated by a 747-400

Surely AA 787s appear sometimes

I don't get the pun

It was a dream to fly on the 787 Dreamliner

Those are actually the same airline :P

Are you sure? I'm pretty sure Piedmont Airlines was just a name they gave to their affiliate in memorial and has no actual connection to the old one. (Similar to Frontier not actually being the old Frontier)

I didn't read the whole thread, but the smallest one I've ever flown is Piedmont Airlines (not the airline that merged with USAir, but the former US Airways affiliate that flew Dash-8s out of CLT and maybe PHL/PIT)

#244248 Tips for New Players

Posted by zelalemon on 15 September 2017 - 05:12 AM in New Players and Questions

Miscellaneous Tips for New Players

Item 1:  Don't be afraid to ask the top ranked players questions like, what strategy are they following, how are they set up (IFS/IFE, whether they took out loans or not, how did they use them, etc)

Most of us will be happy to answer (although it might take a little time to get back to you).

Item 2: Join an Alliance.  It helps to have other airlines in your home country, especially those who have numerous hubs set up that you as a fellow alliance member can make use of by flying to and from such hubs.

Item 3:  When you get your starting aircraft, one of the things you can do is extend your lease from 1 year to at least 4 years (you can extend all the way out to 9 or 10 years [I forget which]).  Extending that lease for the starter plane will lower your monthly lease payout by quite a lot.

Item 4:  Understand that no matter which airport you choose as your HQ, for the 1st month only you will pay 250k for 5 gates - so it makes good financial sense to choose an airport where the monthly lease per gate is at least $25,000 - as you benefit from operating at an airport that normally you would have to pay a higher gate lease cost for.  By the time that the second month comes and goes, hopefully you will have filled all 250 slots (you get 50 slots per gate.)

Item 5: You are more or less forced to pay all your employees the minimum wage allowed for the 1st few months; otherwise you will be at a profound disadvantage.  After the 1st few months, if your preference is to play realistically, you can 1) adjust the salaries to the appropriate level, and 2) pay out one or more bonuses to make up for the below market wages your employees endured in the 1st few months.

Item 6: utilize all 140 hours for each aircraft you acquire/lease, especially in the 1st few months, otherwise - again - you will be operating at a financial disadvantage.

Good tips, except in number 4, you will want gates that are at least $50,000 as 5*50,000 = 250,000

I agree AE should be back in development but you should NEVER lie about if someone is dead ! that is disgraceful and disgusting !

if this results in people from the community working to make AE better, than the ends definitely justify the means.

There's no need to debate whether he's actually dead anymore, it doesn't really matter at all.

Ya so? Look at what age NNR and KJS607 started AE at.

YA SO? Most AE players are UNDER 25, many are UNDER 16 and some are even UNDER 11 like spinkid's pupils (check the forum: http://www.airline-e...e-2#entry244338)

do you fall into that under 11 category as well

#245235 Calling on New Players

Posted by zelalemon on 27 September 2017 - 02:00 AM in New Players and Questions

Hi doc,

I have a question for you. I just discovered or so I think I have that discovered that you can put one plane on more than one route. I have a plane showing it goes from BOS to CHI to PHI the to BAL. Is this possible? and if so what would be the best way to set up or utilize such a route?

Thx Bos142

Yes, that is possible, but for the most part it is more profitable to send the planes between just two destinations, especially at the beginning of the game, to use gates more efficiently. It is more effective to use all 50 slots at 2 airports than to use 25 slots at 4 airports, if that makes sense.

The new version of the Suburban/Yukon XL gets 16 mpg which isn't the greatest, but is an improvement over the old 13 mpg. BTW, the Suburban can fit 9 people in a 3-3-3 layout.

You can't fit three people in the front row of a suburban. Not only are there only two seats, but to carry 8 passengers (so 9 including driver) you need a special drivers license, at least in North Carolina and i assume in many other US states.

They're the only ones, also - the Caravan is terrible and outdated and the pacifica is rly expensive for a minivan

the base pacifica is less expensive than the base sienna and the base odyssey

#246888 Your First Car

Posted by zelalemon on 11 October 2017 - 04:28 PM in Real World Surface Transportation

If it's like that, what the difference between a full-size SUV like the Yukon or Suburban compared to a minivan. Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey can seat 8 or 7 people. And, the minivans are a lot cheaper than the SUVs, something like about 30,000 to 50,000.

Are they used for different purpose? Or why do people choose each one?

A suburban can do things a minivan can't. It has much more engine power than a sienna, so it can actually tow things. A suburban can also handle rough terrain, a sienna cannot. A suburban also has a tiny bit more storage space. minivans are also not cool at all

#245770 A340 or 777?

Posted by zelalemon on 03 October 2017 - 06:35 PM in Real World Aviation

The A340 is the only airbus plane that looks good, and the 777 is one of the uglier Boeings (imo) so ill take the A340. Plus I've flown on one of those but never a 777.

#245875 A340 or 777?

Posted by zelalemon on 04 October 2017 - 04:42 AM in Real World Aviation

Fly a 777. your opinion will change. 340 is so much louder, and it just isn't as good. plus, aging cabins won't help it's case.

i blame most of the interior comfort stuff on the airline rather than the airplane, so this was just a judge of looks to me.

Just look at the amazing Cessna 172. Isn't it beautiful?

I've never flown on a Cessna 172, but I have to agree it's one of the true artistic masterpieces of the 21st century.
