#33747 Monopolize Gates

Posted by Russ on 14 May 2006 - 06:46 PM in Game Discussion (SIM2)

Some airports are gate restricted, like LGA and STL plus many others, go read the on line game rules that gives you this info, plus there is a max number in others that you are allowed :o

What online rules are there other than the wiki? I have read it, read the FAQ, no mention of gate restrictions.

I can live with it, although it alters my strategy. I saw Woody sweep in and buy 35 gates and I can't buy 3? So I build a terminal.

#33740 Monopolize Gates

Posted by Russ on 14 May 2006 - 05:07 PM in Game Discussion (SIM2)

When I tried to buy all the gates from a city today, I got the error message that I would not be allowed to monopolize all the gates and would be allocated 1.

Is this new or have I just never come across it before?

#33544 Has the LF bug been fixed?

It had never been fixed. A beta was developed but withdrawn.

#33489 Time to help the competition...

Posted by Russ on 07 May 2006 - 08:33 PM in Announcements

Increasing the used market should be good for everyone. The smaller airlines can now buy used aircraft cheaper and there are more aircraft available for all.

I agree, although it may take some time for the prices to come down below list. Initially it will help the larger airlines get more airframes per day.

It has increased the used aircraft market.

Please keep the number of delivery's per manf at 2. That will help the smaller airlines who can only afford one airframe per month anyway.

#33358 My huge mistake

Posted by Russ on 05 May 2006 - 11:48 PM in Game Discussion (SIM2)

Well that was last round..and i aint sayin you wrong, but technique varies as well as the competition...for many people at this point if they join, they are bound to go down, but if they dont, kudos to them! (and some to you)

Obviously someone has to be in the bottom 50% and frankly he has painted himself into a bit of a corner; one aircraft in a low airport density area. Building DOP is going to be very difficult, cheap aircraft (b19000, atr42) don't have the range, so he is forced to pick range over seats. Bankrupty is a good option, starting in europe or the east coast. As a learning exercise, trying different aircraft, getting an idea on how airport size relates to LF and competition.

Without starting over, I don't think even the top ten could advance far from that starting point. Sorry:(

#33321 My huge mistake

Posted by Russ on 05 May 2006 - 01:45 PM in Game Discussion (SIM2)

Best bet though...keep an eye on the forums and wait until the next reset...hook onto the wave of no competition and fly short routes (Above 100nm but less than 1000nm) between big cities....big money then...but the next thing to look forward to at this rate is AE3

Not true, I started about this time last round and got into the top 50. There is a lot to learn by playing and still plenty of time to do well.

#33270 Oh. My. God!!!!!

Posted by Russ on 04 May 2006 - 12:00 PM in Game Discussion (SIM2)

What it means that if ur 328 is only making around 50k, means that ur operating on perhaps crowded routes or less yielding routes then say PSA. Remember, location does matter in relation to yield, in some circumstances.

I dont think ur underperforming, just perhaps u need bigger aircraft and be selective on ur routes until u can start massing up money to buy more and more aircraft and perhaps build up a hub and developed a strong route network from wherever u are operating from. :o

Don't buy a hub until you have filled 20 gates at the airport and have 75% jets flying from it. Waste of money until then.

I was being sarcastic #1, and the airplanes I'd like to see are already in the database...you just can't buy them.

In that case, in the immortal words of Rosanna Rosannadanna

Never mind

Where are you based Bushey? I want to invade...

Add it as a feature request for V3. Fine with me. But it sounds like a lot of time and effort.

More cities would be easier (although if you open that can of worms there is 1000 different opinions on which ones to add, and no matter how many you add, someone will be annoyed that their pet city was forgotten)

#33162 New Delivery Rules

Posted by Russ on 02 May 2006 - 09:23 PM in Announcements

Any idea if in the next version if different planes have different lines? For example: 777/767 one line, 747 one line, 737 one line, 717 one line.

And limit the production from each line? That should keep the number of WB from flooding the game like last round.

I am not sure I buy into the idea but it does have aspects I like.

#33160 New Delivery Rules

Posted by Russ on 02 May 2006 - 09:21 PM in Announcements

Hey TW after seeing some of the effects, do you plan on making it 5 per month after a while? I mean thats a good way of covering the basics and can control prices, as right now they will soon skyrocket.

Considering that buying two aircraft a month exceeds the capabilities of about 700 players, I don't think it will enhance overall game play.

If this game truly needs a broker class then that should be added to version three. And IMHO, you should be able to choose one role or another; no private sales for brokers; and a different production Q

#33158 New Delivery Rules

Posted by Russ on 02 May 2006 - 09:15 PM in Announcements

I'm not sure I like the idea of an automatically populating used market if it's being automatically populated with new aircraft. Kind of defeats the purpose of both the used market and the delivery controls. Now if you were going to randomly put out aged aircraft, say a 5 year old 737 or a 4 year old Q400, that would be a little better.

However, I'm definitely with 737MMA and his suggestion to have the older airplanes populated into the used market. Given the choice of waiting 6 months for an A330 or buying a used DC10 today, I'd definitely give the DC10 a good look. Besides that, as 737MMA (and someone else in another thread)said it'd be kind of fun to be able to operate the older aircraft too. It'd a bit of variety (not to mention realism) to the game.

Frankly I would much rather have more airports added than obsolete aircraft. But my number one priority is for V3 and any time diverted to enhancing this version is to be avoided. Of course, any time fixing bugs, tweaking current features is much appreciated.

#33133 Global Airlines

Posted by Russ on 02 May 2006 - 04:38 PM in Real World Aviation

OK, this is probably one of the stupidest questions ever asked...but here goes:

Why has nobody bothered to create a "Global Airlines" in reality. Is it that the name is owned by someone. Do the creators of an airline not want to do a diservice to the name? Answers?

Until the last 20 years, all air travel was so regulated, that any attempt to create a global airline from scratch was a impossibility.

Although, think of the name behind TWA.

#33096 Create hub

Posted by Russ on 01 May 2006 - 09:52 PM in Game Discussion (SIM2)

What would you recommend me to do? Continue expand or return all gates and inauguarate the routes again? :/

It depends.

Do you have enough DOP to absorb the hub cost on a monthly basis? Can you buy gates or have you hubbed a popular location? If you don't start over, your strategy is set: build a large spoke and hub network as fast as possible.

#33089 Create hub

Posted by Russ on 01 May 2006 - 07:51 PM in Game Discussion (SIM2)

Is there any way to remove a created hub? I did create it by mistake!

Return all gates and start over at that city.

At this time there is no way to return a terminal that you may have built and if you put a hub on a terminal, then that is permanent.

And for your info, if you build a terminal, the gates that you had at that airport are released for rental. You do not retain or absorb them.

#32997 Beginner Questions..

Posted by Russ on 30 April 2006 - 05:52 PM in Game Discussion (SIM2)

Some good advice from all.

The ATR42 is great as a J31 replacement where you have short routes, high LF and little competition. The operation cost per seat is higher than the 328, so the economics slide towards the 328 as the game goes along. Also, the 328 has greater range, so you can fly to more cities. but don't expand too quickly, gate costs can eat up a lot of profits.

Replace the j31 with ATR or 328 ASAP. don't bother going larger yet, you can do that soon enough once you have the cash flowing.

Whether to buy on the used market or new depends on delivery. The sooner you have an airframe on line the sooner you can make money off it. Unless I can get a good deal from the used market (less than list) I prefer to buy new. I can increase my DOP while I pay off the debt. But that depends on when I can get the plane. If there is a multimonth wait, it is worth buying used or going to an alternative choice rather than foregoing profits. The Q400 is a great plane but not that much better than an ATR72 or EMB or Saab to be worth missing on 3-4 game months of profits.

Also remember that you aren't stuck with an airframe for the rest of the game. You can trade in and upgrade as you expand. So that ATR42 becomes an ATR72, the 328 becomes an EMB170.

Don't bother with Mainline jets until you get about $1M DOP. Again, the defered profits are not worth it.

#32927 Gate Holding Tactics?

Posted by Russ on 29 April 2006 - 02:38 PM in Game Discussion (SIM2)

Considering the dearth of gates availible by end of year 2 last round, I would think that holding scarce gates for future expansion is a legitimate tactic.

We don't know Y's intent so it is a little early to call him out. Review again in year 3.

#32772 Strategy: Saabs, Saabs, Saabs!

Posted by Russ on 26 April 2006 - 06:47 PM in Game Discussion (SIM2)

I can't belive it the order book for Q400s was 7 pages long this morning! I'm shure not gonna wait that long for a Q400 and now the SAAB order book is getting longer too but thats ok I found a better plane that I like

Yes, I think that we will see a much wider variety of airframes than we did in the last round.

But I do fear for when the game moves to jets and there are only two manufacturers for aircraft 150+. It may slow the growth of the the top players but I anticipate that the top 50 players will monopolize the order books.

#32693 used market ID Numbers to help stop feeders

Posted by Russ on 25 April 2006 - 04:43 PM in Suggestions and Feature Requests

We already have a cheating log, its just so large that searching it is large. However i've devised a new system to highlight cheaters automatically in V3.

Do you plan to slipstream any of this code into the current round?

I realize that a) design does not mean working code and :) there may be dependencies that force an all or nothing implementation and c) time spent adding features now means time not spent on v3.
