Don't take loans.  Period.

#237156 I keep losing money fast!

Posted by Yoshi on 18 May 2017 - 02:22 PM in New Players and Questions

Under "Airline Options", go to shared control and type in the number 23747.  Don't worry, I won't tamper with your airline; I'll just see why it's losing money.

#236795 Share any upcoming flight details you have

Posted by Yoshi on 11 May 2017 - 05:32 PM in Real World Aviation

The joy of non-revving...
Okay, I'm going from Las Vegas to Guilin and Guangzhou via Hong Kong. The first flight, Delta from LAS-SEA, should be pretty simple.
However, Delta's SEA-HKG flight is operated by an Airbus A330-200, and it's notorious for being "payload optimized" (where there's seats available but they can't be occupied). We'd be lucky to get seats on that flight.
If that doesn't work, we'd fly from SEA-LAX on Delta (and into the current mess that is Terminal 3, possibly). Cathay Pacific operates two night flights from LAX-HKG, CX 883 and then CX 881. If that still doesn't work (which it should), there's always American's new 2 AM LAX-HKG flight.

#234091 Difference between Hub and Terminal? What are the pros and Cons of both?

Posted by Yoshi on 21 March 2017 - 02:54 PM in New Players and Questions

Comparing hubs and terminals is like comparing apples to oranges. Hubs allows connecting traffic in airports, which gives some of your flights some additional income but makes the airport more expensive to operate out of. Terminals are less expensive to operate out of and are not subject to the gate cap. However, they're expensive to build.

Yes, without a doubt.

#231913 Low cost vs. legacy: Which do you prefer to run?

I'm more of a legacy airline person because LCCs kind of piss me off.  Plus, it just feels better.

#231780 Back To The Roots - Delta One to Shanghai on the 767

Posted by Yoshi on 11 February 2017 - 05:46 AM in Trip Reports

Synopsis: Non-revving on international flights can be a bit of a pain, but luckily, my family was able to snag some empty Delta One seats.  Granted, they were all in the center section, but business class (or a seat for that matter) is always better than nothing.
This was only my second time on international business class, and I haven't rode on Delta's 767s since 2014.  I was excited to fly on this aircraft again, and I wanted to compare this flight to my HKG-SEA flight on an A330.
This thread has pictures only.  The full video will be posted on my blog soon, and you can watch the video version here.

Conclusion: Other than the crap entertainment solution, I had a thoroughly enjoyable flight.  The seat was good, the food was great, and the service was what I'd expect from Delta.  It's certainly a nice way to fly.

#231722 What's wrong?

Posted by Yoshi on 10 February 2017 - 06:40 AM in New Players and Questions

DAL is under the Wright Amendment, meaning that commercial service is limited to within Texas and its surrounding states or to any aircraft with a maximum payload of 56 pax or less. The Wright Amendment will be lifted in 2014.

#231527 Your favorite North American Airport

Posted by Yoshi on 06 February 2017 - 09:37 PM in AE North America

Probably biased since it's my home airport, but McCarran International Airport (LAS).
32435601721_7f04dbb88c.jpg
At least at Terminal 3 and Concourse D, McCarran is a really nice airport.  Clean, airy, a good amount of power ports, efficient security, free Wi-Fi, and even slots machines (I can't gamble yet, so don't ask).
Second place would probably be Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA).

#231396 Why is there a Max Payload of less than the actual limit?

Posted by Yoshi on 05 February 2017 - 03:12 AM in New Players and Questions

The route you're trying to replace probably exceed the Q300's range.  While there is a "max" range an aircraft can theoretically fly, it has to carry less passengers in order to meet that.

#231171 (Major) crashes at your closest (international) airport?

Posted by Yoshi on 01 February 2017 - 08:40 PM in Real World Aviation

Las Vegas (LAS)
British Airways flight 2276, a Boeing 777-200ER bound for London-Gatwick on September 8, 2015. One of the engines suffered uncontained engine failure during takeoff, causing it to catch fire. The only injuries were during the evacuation, and the plane was put back into service a few months later.

#230779 Delta First Class from Las Vegas to Seattle

Posted by Yoshi on 27 January 2017 - 09:32 PM in Trip Reports

Synopsis: Delta's LAS-SEA flight is one I'm starting to get used to, that first Boeing 717 flight before connecting to other destinations.  In this case, I was flying with my family to mainland China, and SeaTac happens to be one of Delta's trans-Pacific gateways.
On December 17th, 2016, Delta was operating their first LAS-SEA flight of the day with a refurbished Boeing 737-800 with AVOD, a nice upgrade over the 717s they usually use.  Plus, the flight was only half full and the first class cabin nearly empty, which is great news for a non-rev like me.
This thread has pictures only.  The full trip report is available on my blog, and you can watch the video version here.

Conclusion: Overall, I had a pleasant flight.  Sure, it was pretty uneventful as I'd come to expect, but the in-flight entertainment was certainly a nice perk.  Now the question is whether we can actually make a flight into China...

Thai Airways

Qatar Airways

Air France

Hop!

Lufthansa CityLine

Volotea

EasyJet

I'm certain that others on this forum have flown on these airlines.  It's as if I said that Delta and Cathay Pacific are obscure airlines that nobody else has flown.
