#60080 Please fix the lack of profits problem-Sim2 No longer playable

Posted by Orion1982 on 16 February 2009 - 01:35 PM in Game Discussion (SIM2)

Each to their own! It was still a financial headache when I was in the industry, and it always will be, I suspect.

#60078 List of Alliances

Posted by Orion1982 on 16 February 2009 - 11:17 AM in Suggestions and Feature Requests

This is very worthwhile. The Alliance concept has got a lot to offer.

Thanks.

#60077 Speedbird Alliance

Posted by Orion1982 on 16 February 2009 - 11:15 AM in Alliances

New members are still welcome. We're the joint biggest Alliance in Sim2 now. Size isn't everything though, we just want to be the friendliest!

#60076 Please fix the lack of profits problem-Sim2 No longer playable

Posted by Orion1982 on 16 February 2009 - 11:10 AM in Game Discussion (SIM2)

Can I offer an alternative view?

Whilst it was great to make $15m a day and buy two A333s a month out of the cashflow, that was unrealistic. It's far more realistic now in terms of returns.

I would agree that there should be some scope for profitability on the thinner routes when using the right a/c. For example, DEL-BOM should be a major route, but is barely profitable with an A319. Most mahor Indian routes just about support one ATR42!

The LFs on the major routes are pretty good I think, but we need more scope on the thinner ones.

Also, in reality, overheads would be much higher so we benefit there at the moment. Where we depart from reality is that a/c monthly lease payments should be possible. That way we don't have to buy from cashflow.

There is a great deal to be gained from developing the Alliance concept. If that was able to boost LFs (albeit at reduced seat revenue), we were able to rent single slots from gates held by partners and were able to lease a/c between alliance partners that would boost the realism, and make the game even more fun.

The used a/c facility is brilliant if you use it properly. The reality is that it works best early in the game. I doubt you would be competitive in the real world running your DC-9-40 head to head with an A318! Cheap to buy, expensive to maintain and fly.

As I've said before, Sim2 is being developed and we are somewhat privileged to take part in the development. Plus, it's free. Great work guys (and gals I presume). Keep up the good work.

#59888 Aquablue Airlines looks for Codesharing partner!

Posted by Orion1982 on 05 February 2009 - 09:54 PM in Airline Press Releases

No terms; a willingness to exchange advice and tips. When the program is amended to influence load factors we will negotiate to work to best effect. Till then it's about making friends online.

#59756 Game Speed

Posted by Orion1982 on 25 January 2009 - 05:26 PM in Game Discussion (SIM2)

It's slow if you haven't got anything to do all day except play computer games. For those of us with a job, one month / day is fine otherwise we would never be able to keep up.

Good on you GBA222 for challenging this unbelievably offensive airline name, and thanks Mods for sorting it.

Problem is those of us who have to work will miss every alternate month

Come and join Speedbird. We have a comprehensive network throughout Europe and further afield. I will send you an invitation.

#59617 Speedbird Alliance

Posted by Orion1982 on 06 January 2009 - 08:54 PM in Alliances

We have nine members so far, and the number is still increasing. Every one is most welcome to apply.

In particular, we want to keep the Alliance going after the next reset, and the planning starts now.

#59601 Veteran Player ISO Alliance

Posted by Orion1982 on 04 January 2009 - 09:22 PM in Alliances

Come and join us in Speedbird. Our aims are the same as yours, i.e. play fairly, learn and improve whilst cooperating with others who share these aims.

#59600 Speedbird Alliance

Posted by Orion1982 on 04 January 2009 - 09:19 PM in Alliances

We are pleased to announce that Speedbird Alliance is open to new members. Speedbird aims to provide cooperation between individual members and in particular to promote the two-way flow of traffic between local operators and long haul carriers via a worldwide system of hubs.

No single carrier within Speedbird will dominate the alliance and we have no hidden agenda. We encourage members to exchange information and tips about how to succeed in this great game.

Please feel free to apply to join Speedbird.

#59576 SIM2 - Several Updates

Posted by Orion1982 on 01 January 2009 - 07:18 PM in Announcements

Good improvements all round and thanks to the developers for all their hard work. The alliance structure is a great move if it can be made to work, and the new load factors are far more realistic. All we need now is a/c leasing :-)

#59575 Leasing aircraft?

Posted by Orion1982 on 01 January 2009 - 07:14 PM in Game Discussion (SIM2)

Be nice to see it though, as it represents reality in the industry.

Happy New Year from Leeds, England!

#59242 Sim2 Reset due to corrupted data

Posted by Orion1982 on 10 December 2008 - 09:51 PM in Announcements

Let's remember this is still a beta as far as I am aware. We play for free and in doing so help prove the system. Frustrating (I had just ordered 6 A333s) but every time it resets, it gets better.

So, good work guys (and gals I presume). I'm in this time round as well.

#59129 [Resolved] No Planes Delivered

Posted by Orion1982 on 08 December 2008 - 06:25 PM in Bugs

Before we get too upset we get to play this game for free and it is a beta version so we are all helping by finding the bugs, so the developers' hard work is appreciated.

Oh and I'm still missing an A333 from Oct and 2 A333s and a B739 from Nov :-(

Cheers for now

#59068 [Resolved] No aircraft actually delivered month end Sept Year 1

Posted by Orion1982 on 07 December 2008 - 02:20 PM in Bugs

I would think Tobias will sort it out and rerun the delivery schedule. Just in case we still have to notify:

Inter Alia (T/a BOAC) 2 x A330-300s as above please.

#58444 [Resolved] Bug, Bug, Bug.

Posted by Orion1982 on 14 November 2008 - 07:17 AM in Bugs

I appreciate Sim2 is still the beta version so am not to annoyed about these bugs yet. Once they are all ironed out it will be excellent.

Meantime:

I have five gates at EWR but it won't let me set up a hub!?

#58210 Sim 2 Privatly Selling Planes

Fish10:

thanks for your informative answers!

#58209 No manner people

Posted by Orion1982 on 05 November 2008 - 06:28 PM in Game Discussion (SIM2)

I suspect that something has been lost in the translation. However it might be an interesting game ploy to run as Al Quedair :-)

#58203 No manner people

Posted by Orion1982 on 05 November 2008 - 04:13 PM in Game Discussion (SIM2)

I live in Pudsey (on the border with Bradford) and work in NW Leeds. Seacroft is the opposite side of the city.

Top place to live (mostly).

Simon

#58201 No manner people

Posted by Orion1982 on 05 November 2008 - 03:53 PM in Game Discussion (SIM2)

Terrorist? That's a bit extreme..

honestly, sounds like to me u had no competition on some routes and now u are trying to deem this as an excuse. With competition, comes lower prices and lower profits. Sim1, u need a strong hub to compensate for this and it can happen.

I say just keep playing along and keep improving those routes.

It's what this game (and indeed being in business) is all about. Michael O'Leary and Ryanair aren't in the Korean market yet. They would come in at £1.00 a ticket and steal the market :sniff:

#58200 Sim 2 Privatly Selling Planes

Posted by Orion1982 on 05 November 2008 - 03:47 PM in Game Discussion (SIM2)

You have to sell via the 'Broker'. Go to the Aircraft menu and look at the bottom of the page.

To be honest you are probably better off squeezing every last bit of profit out of them rather than trying to sell, but that's just my opinion!

On two separate notes:

1. Load factors seem very low this time. Last game you struggled to dip below 100% even quite late on. This time they all seem much lower. Is that soemthing that has been fixed for realism?

2. How do I change the name of my airline? I use the BOAC logo as I wish to trade as BOAC (ah the nostalgia!) but am still registered as Inter Alia.

Thanks
