Thought I would congratulate South Korea for officially having the busiest air route between two destinations in the world for 2017!

The world's busiest air route is in South Korea, from the holiday island of Jeju to the capital of Seoul. According to flight data website OAG.com, airlines fly the route a whopping 64,991 times a year.

As for International routes, well that belongs to Hong Kong - Taipei with the route being flown 29,494 times in 2017.

Still, don't understand why so many people travel on the Dublin-London route.

Although for personally I think that domestic air-travel will decrease as time goes on, with high-speed trains etc which make taking a plane even longer. The only example I can think of this is the FCO-LIN/FCO-MXP route in Italy because of the high-speed (Freccia Rossa) trains between Rome and Milan, and the rest of Italy.

The popularity and convenience of high-speed rail is already making airline travel uncompetitive in much of continental Europe.

The Northeast Regional train route competes with airlines on routes between Washington DC, Philadelphia, New York, and Boston as well but rail travel can't compete with the convenience of airline hubs.

If you haven't realized this is by weekly flights not passengers.

Cheap flights and hacks which make the ticket considerably cheaper, a ticket from London to Hong Kong will be much expensive than a Dublin-London-Hong Kong flight, if you get it

No, it's because they are two metropolitan areas with a lot of demand for travel between them, and the only reasonable way to travel between them is by air.
