There's nothing saying airliners can't load and unload from the right. But if it's that much of an issue, I'll flip the gate around.

While technically most can, I don't believe it's done anywhere. On top of this, some planes (such as the CRJ and MD-80/717) have smaller doors on the right hand side.

Mate, airliners always board from the left hand side.

Why is there no customs through out all of the terminals? that is the biggest issue of ORD right now...
All passengers entering the international terminal must pass through security. The passport control at the entrance to the international terminal is located after security, so domestic connecting passengers can reach their gate without passing through security an additional time.
All passengers leaving the international terminal (the upper level of Terminal A) will have to pass through Customs upon entry. After passing Customs they will take an escalator down into the central atrium. If they need to enter the secure areas of the airport (for connecting flights, to access other terminals), they must pass through security again.

Update on NYNJ Airport:
Gates are going fast: Our last gates for sale are available in Terminal 2 for All departures and Domestic arrivals. These can be purchased along with International Arrival slots in Terminal 1, if needed. These gates can each fit up to a 757, or with two gates purchased Aircraft up to 777-300ER can be accommodated.
Plenty of slots are available in Concourses C and D for International Arrivals and Departures of Heavy aircraft. NYNJ Airport is willing to waive airport fees for airlines willing to open non-stop flights to Latin America and Asia, as we feel these areas are as of yet underserved.
