Islander Aerospace message to airline CEOs:

Is anyone interested in a 19-30 seat tiltrotor?

UKA would require the tiltrotor to have at least 500 NM range, and the speed would have to be about the same as the Bombardier Q400.
If those requirements are met we would be interested in 15 of the aircraft.

Pratt & Whitney Canada is offering to build a turboshaft version of its PW100 gas turbine engine series and they are asking if you prefer the PW127G or PW 150A.

 

PW127G (used on the EADS CASA C-295) has a power output of 2,281kW. It will sacrifice payload carrying capability for fuel efficiency.

 

PW150A (used on the Bombardier Q400) has a power output of 3,782kW. It will sacrifice fuel efficiency for payload carrying capability.

 

Only one type of engine will be used on the final design.

Islander Aerospace is an ASEAN aircraft manufacturing consortium. It started in 1998 after the merger of various aircraft engineering firms in Southeast Asia after the Asian financial crisis of 1997. Its headquartered in Bandung, Indonesia where its final assembly plant is also located. A larger, final assembly plant is set to open in General Santos City in the Philippines to accommodate the manufacturing of larger aircraft.

If the capacity can stay at around 35 pax and range is at least 1100 miles Interpacific would be interested in at least 55 units with the PW150A. If those requirements are not met, then we would require the PW127G.

The range and passenger capacity is doable on both. But our calculations indicate that on the PW127G, the aircraft might only be able to do STOL and not VTOL at MTOW. The PW150A on the other hand is very overpowered, compromising fuel efficiency.

 

Pratt & Whitney Canada could develop an entirely new engine optimized to a power rating in between but that would significantly increase costs and delay the aircraft further.

 

Therefore, the most suitable option now is a derated PW150A.

If our previous requirements can be met we would like to proceed with an order of 55 aircraft, along with 40 options. VTOL wasn't what we were looking for, but if that's available then we are more than satisfied with this. We would like to have the planes delivered at our hubs in LaGuardia, Washington Reagan and Chicago O'Hare with 15, 15 and 25 units respectively. When can we expect the deliveries to begin?

Ikarus announces a new design based on the MD-80, the IK-201.

Next to 6 abreast seating, the IK-201 improves in the perfomance sector, with PW1000G engines as the powerplant. A major addition are the winglets, that provide an extra 15% in fuel savings.
