So, here is my thought on the game so far:

Pros:

- They improved the intersection texture with better zebra cross and road markings.

- The road and sidewalk texture blend really well.

- Extra detail on the road such as street lamp, signs, grating and hydrant.

- Intersection blends well with unconventional road.

- Slightly better performances compared to SimCity 2013 or Cities XXL.

- Improved Texture compared to the Demo.

- The blur effect looks quite good as long you don't go overboard with it.

- Modding is heavily supported.

Cons:
- Curved road still looks quite awkward.
- Trees look quite weird, especially with dirt circle around every single tree.
- Building looks a bit weird with 1 themed on the creator's mind.
- Even though the sidewalk blends really well with individual lot. It only has 1 texture which used on almost single lot in the game right now.
- I don't see much human activity on the street apart from vehicles.

So far, it's still 50/50 for me. Simcity 2013 and Cities XXL have advantages on graphic and environments, so if you want to build pretty city, this is not the game you're looking for, maybe when the mod community like simtropolis developed the game further, then we could see more improvement. The gameplay is quite different from the other 2, it's pretty fresh, but I'm still leaning towards the other 2.

Not that complicated is the best sentence to describe it.

I approve. only complaint is that highway running through the middle. i understand the function but it detracts from the city having two sides divided by a highway. would be nice to have it underground al-la Big Dig :)

Have an overview?

I think we can all agree that people like to play the game differently.  For some, this game is perfect; for others, a huge disappointment.

I am somewhere in the middle.  I can definitely list WAY more cons than pros, but that doesn't mean I think it's a bad game.  I know I'm a bit more OCD & like to play a certain way that others may not.

I disagree with the earlier post that this game is worse than Cities XL & SimCity 2013, but acknowledge that I'm not in the best position to judge not having played those games.  However, from gameplay videos I've seen, images I've seen, & reviews I've read from Simtropolis & SC4Devotion members, I'd say that this game appears to be a step forward in the city-building genre.  The AI & traffic modelling is a HUGE step up from the past & I mean huge.  The nuts & bolts of this game appear to be really promising & the transit options (able to set your own bus, subway, & train routes) are likely enough to make the game worthwhile to buy on their own.

My concerns are mainly relating to the non-game mechanics stuff like lack of road options (you can have a 2 lane one way road & a 6 lane one way road, but not a 3,4,or 5 lane one way road), lack of lane transitions, absurd amount of building & vehicle repetition, miniature lot sizes, and overall pastel look of the game.  Some of these issues will be solved through mods & custom buildings, but the fact that lot size is so restrictive is a major concern.  The Airport runway doesn't look much more than 200m (600 feet).

The coverage radii on fire stations, schools, police stations, cemeteries, etc. are awful.  Cities of 20k people often have 20 fire stations...

I could nitpick about a lot of other things, but there's no point in really doing so.

My opinion is that out of the box, this game is probably better than any other city building game out of the box, however when compared to a heavily modded SimCity 4, this game still doesn't measure up, even after all those years.  It does give me hope though that the city-building genre is moving forward.  All releases since SimCity 4 made me feel the exact opposite.  For that reason, I am strongly considering getting this game.

Also, I like how one solar plant can replace 4 coal plants. Not sure how realistic that is, but it's a lot more advantageous than the SC4 solar plants :shifty:

That makes me laugh... as a solar farm to do similar would have to be a monster in size.

I bought this game Yesterday because I wanted to be certain that I wasn't lured into buying crap like I was when I pre-ordered Sim Ciy 2013. After reading many reviews and watching many Youtube reviews. I thought it seemed decent enough to give it a try. So far I like it a lot. Sure it perhaps doesn't have the graphics of Cities XXL or Sim City 2013 but I can compromise on that a bit when the game otherwise is pretty much perfect and works so flawlessly. No bugs to report. Fantastic gameplay although the transport(especially trucks) sometimes have weird behavior and roads sometimes look awkward. This game doesn't quite match up to a modded sim city 4 but it is the best successor to sim city 4 I've seen yet.

Why are people comparing a completely stock game with heavily modded SC4? At this point, we should be comparing C:S to default SC4.

I think it's because that's what many of us have been playing a modded SC4 for the last 10+ years.  You make a valid point that it isn't a fair comparison, but I know that it's the comparison that I'll be making anyway, whether I want to or not.

Your last screenshots look great by the way.  I really like the topography you have there.

Because SC4 is the parameter for this kind of game.
