Air Manila made a huge narrow body order for 20 Boeing 737-800's, 16 A320-200's and 10 A321-200's. The airline is also recently ordered 20 wide body 777-200ER's
CitiAir also made an order for 10 A320-200's and 5 A340-300's

There will be new long distance flights along with some non high in demand flights added.
There are a total of 49 aircraft on order:

More orders have been made by Royalty as well as purchasing 25 of the leased airplanes in our fleet, the new orders are for 4 757-300's that will serve the middle east and africa

Air Manila has just ordered 10 Boeing 777-300's scheduled for delivery the year 1999. Air Manila is proud to be one of its first customers. We are using a configuration of 54C/396Y for the aircraft which is set to replace the Boeing 747-400. The order of Boeing 777-200ER's to replace our A340's/A330's has also been announced recently.

Today, Royalty announced cancellation of all the orders the airline with Boeing and decided to announce orders for 15 Fokker 100's and 20 A319-100's.

Italian Airways rebrands as Via Italia.
The move comes after the Italian Airways has seen it's profit drop by a near 20% in the last recent years. An increase in fuel prices,Increased competition in the European Market which is a clear impact of the European Openskies treaty, has flooded and saturated the market. To keep up with increasing competition the airline board gave green light to the marketing dept to rebrand the airline and also giving Italian Airways to reposition its self in the European market. The new concept is to fly to or via Italy, fly Via Italia. We want our passenger to experience Italy's best, experience the Italian Dolce Vita. Made in Italy has always been a synonym of quality and durability. That's why we ordered 25 B777-200ER and 6 B777-200LR to replace old equipments and add capacity on some routes. Via Italia has also signed with Airbus Industries an order of 15 A330-300. A total of 50 new aircrafts are joining our fleet in the coming 5 years.
