#48485 Sim2 Has Been Reset

Posted by D.Y. on 05 June 2007 - 05:58 PM in Announcements

Yes I am Air Transvaal.

The routes in Africa are quite lucrative (without hubs but hubs give only relatively minor increase) and I have not only Q400s but also many A330s and 739s now and still it is impossible to increase prices like that even between main hubs and if there is competition the prices need to go down even further. I have no plans to expand into America currently however so couldn't check whether maybe in America hubs give larger profits than here, when other people who are based in America will open more hubs we'll see.

Then couldn't we use the principle to our daily lives? I would love to reset yesterday's day at work. One thing i hate is seeing crispy critters (people burned alive) being in the job 2yrs would mean i am used to it?

What is your job? Fireman?

Skylite - well, I have many hubs too and most are larger than yours but it is possible to increase prices only somewhat due to the flight being between too hubs and not like this especially if there is competition.

Regarding Africa this is the thing I have already mentioned previously. In Africa the cities that are major in real life may be not profitable to fly to (the Johannesburg-Durban example I have mentioned, also Lagos-Abudja, Johannesburg-Cape Town to a lesser extent) however some smaller cities are profitable for some reason.

#48474 Sim 2: Old LF problem of increasing prices...

Posted by D.Y. on 05 June 2007 - 09:16 AM in Bugs

No it is not because of hubs I believe. I have hubs too and much more traffic in them than Skylite (which had just 31 aircraft by the time it was posted I believe) and prices cmight be somewhat higher but definitely not like this especially when there is competition. I think the bug may be activated by flying many aircraft (instead of higher frequency) on the same route.

Indeed however some strange things are happening. Here for example: http://sim2.airlinee...1=LAX&city2=DEN .

By the time of checking the information of this route was like that:

Airline Aircraft Frequency Total
Daily Seats Ticket Price
Temasek Airlines (10768) Boeing 737-900 4 708 $1,270
Skylite Airlines (13223) Boeing 737-600 4 460 $4,730
Skylite Airlines (13223) Boeing 717-200 3 318 $4,730
Freedom Air (14803) Embraer EMB 190 LR 3 315 $1,500
Skylite Airlines (13223) Boeing 757-300 1 243 $5,065
Skylite Airlines (13223) Boeing 757-300 1 243 $5,065
Skylite Airlines (13223) Boeing 757-300 1 243 $5,065
Skylite Airlines (13223) Boeing 737-600 2 230 $5,065
Skylite Airlines (13223) Boeing 787-8 1 225 $5,065
Skylite Airlines (13223) Boeing 737-900 1 177 $5,065
Skylite Airlines (13223) Boeing 737-900 1 177 $5,065
Skylite Airlines (13223) Boeing 737-900 1 177 $5,065
Midway (16350) Bombardier Q400 2 148 $800
Skylite Airlines (13223) Boeing 717-200 1 106 $5,065
Skylite Airlines (13223) Boeing 717-200 1 106 $5,065
United Airlines (16434) Raytheon Beech 1900D 3 57 $1,200

Now wonder Skylite Airlines came up so quickly.

#48436 Sim2 Has Been Reset

Posted by D.Y. on 04 June 2007 - 09:09 PM in Announcements

Remember that the time is passing by 4 times quicker on sim2 than on sim1 (that is, on a single day four game time months passes). As the time is passing quicker I am unable to login every month and when I login after not logging in for several months there is a good deal of money that I can invest in A330s for example. Also in sim2 you get all aircrafts you order immedietly (rather than 2 aircrafts per month from a single manufactorer) so airline expansion is much quicker.

One thing which I don't understand (which is perhaps not related to the sim2) is how the value of the airline is counted? I am constantly having higher profits and higher revenues than the airline that is above me in the rankings, but the value of that airline is bigger and the gap is getting larger and larger.

#48430 List of minor errors for Miller

Indeed I have meant what Africaspotter says.

#48415 List of minor errors for Miller

Posted by D.Y. on 03 June 2007 - 08:52 PM in Suggestions and Feature Requests

Indeed there is one unrealistic thing in the new script related to that. In some cases not only the percentage of people flying may decrease when you increase the frequncey, but overal *number* as well. For example it may be so that the airplane will be 75% full if there is one flight a day and that it will be 15% full if there will be two flights a day at the same price (that number of people would fill only 30% of aircraft should it fly one time a day). When you increase frequency the overal number of passengers should only increase (due to better choice of departure time) or at least stay the same/almost the same, but definitely not decrease. So for example if the plane was 80% full when flying once a day it should be at least 40% full if it flies twice a day with price unchanged.

#48383 List of minor errors for Miller

Posted by D.Y. on 01 June 2007 - 06:03 PM in Suggestions and Feature Requests

As Miller seems to have came back, I decided to create this topic for us to list the *minor* errors in the game that would presumably be easy to correct and hopefully they (or at least some of them) could be corrected before the next restart. Hopefully this list would make an easy refference. Please add here such mistakes you've encountered.

MISPELLED NAMES:
Frankfort (should be Frankfurt)
Tokyo Haneida (should be Tokyo Haneda)

MISPLACED AIRPORTS:
Kimberley, South Africa (sim2 - severely misplaced)
Niamey, Niger (sim2 - severely misplaced)
Ankara (should be hundreds of kilometers west)
Bergen (should be hundreds of kilometers west; now is in Sweden instead of Norway)

AIRPORTS LISTED AT WRONG CONTINENT:
Abu Dhabi (listed in Africa, should be Middle East)
Bahrain (listed in Europe, should be Middle East)
Algiers (listed in Europe, should be Africa)
Leipzig (sim2; listed in Africa, should be Europe)
Kota Kinabalu (listed in Asia, should be Southeast Asia/Oceania)

Also, there should probably be consistency with cities of Egypt - either Hurghada in the Middle East, or Cairo in Africa. Turkish cities may as well be moved to the Middle East.

#48382 For the next round can we............

Posted by D.Y. on 01 June 2007 - 05:53 PM in Suggestions and Feature Requests

Regarding the airports I do believe the priority should be given for countries that has no airports still in the game. There are some pretty big markets not included at all, such as Pakistan for example, whole Central Asia. As well many countries with smaller, but still far from minor traffic these days (Eastern Europe - Croatia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia; Asia (including Middle East); South America - at the present situation in sim1 only Western Europe and US/Canada are well represented with all the major airports covered, in sim2 Africa as well).

#48293 Picture

One bug with pictures is that while it is impossible to upload an airline logo on server 2 if you do so that logo becomes a logo of the airline in server 1 that has the same id.

#47984 Grand Way Company looks for an alliance

Posted by D.Y. on 15 May 2007 - 08:47 PM in Alliances

Today Grand Way Company has received its 22nd and 23rd aircrafts.

At the present time, the company holds these positions at the ariports of the Middle East:
1st place - Kuwait, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Hurghada.
2nd place - Riyadh, Larnaca.
3rd place - Ankara, Tel Aviv, Jeddah.
4th place - Istanbul.
6th place - Antalya.

In Beirut, Dubai and Cairo the airline is not in the top ten, but these destinations are served as well (same as several destinations outside the Middle East).

#47947 Second server bug (misplaced city)

Posted by D.Y. on 13 May 2007 - 09:14 PM in Bugs

Another bug - Durban, a major port in South Africa, is considered to be a very small city; it is even impossible to make any profit (only losses) when flying Johannesburg-Durban 5 times a day with Beechcraft with no competition.

#47946 Second server bug (misplaced city)

Posted by D.Y. on 13 May 2007 - 09:03 PM in Bugs

There is a bug in the second server - Kimberley, South Africa is seriously misplaced. It is shown that the distance between it and other South African cities is over 7000.

#47793 Grand Way Company adopts new logo

Posted by D.Y. on 07 May 2007 - 09:12 PM in Airline Press Releases

Today Grand Way Company has announced that it adopts new logo. The previous logo of the company was all white, with red words "Grand Way" in the middle and red word "Company" bellow (which was written in a smalle font). The new logo, based on the flag of the Ottoman Empire, will have a green background and will bear three crescent moons, representing the goal of the company to become the number 1 in the Islamic world.

#47791 Grand Way Company looks for an alliance

Posted by D.Y. on 07 May 2007 - 09:01 PM in Alliances

Grand Way Company, one of the largest airlines in the Middle East, is looking for an alliance.

Currently Grand Way Company is number 1 in three airports (Bahrain, Kuwait and Abu Dhabi) and number 2 in one airport (Riyadh). It operates a fleet of 12 aircraft, most of which are of Bombardier Q400 type.

Number of Grand Way Company is 17410.

#47352 Grand Way Company closes two routes

Posted by D.Y. on 15 April 2007 - 10:25 PM in Airline Press Releases

Grand Way Company, a small carrier based in Istanbul that operates since July of year 2, has announced today that two of its routes, namely Istanbul-Athens and Istanbul-Antalya, are to be closed due to tough competition. The Istanbul-Athens route was one one of the most lucrative routes for the company but recently several large carriers, including Global International Airways which now operate on both routes cancelled by GWC, entered the market and offered better fares. On Istanbul-Antalya route fares went to the all time low of 120$. Due to the closure of these routes the Grand Way Company's fleet of 3 Beechcraft 1900D airplanes and 2 BAe Systems J-31s is now used less than previously. Some airplanes were however reassigned to other, less lucrative routes.

Thanks for the answer.

Another question:

When you order a new aircraft when it will be delivered? Exactly after one month or at the time when the current month changed into the next month?

#47278 Gatehogging

Posted by D.Y. on 12 April 2007 - 02:08 PM in Suggestions and Feature Requests

I guess the problem with this solution is that it would be way less realistic (and cause such illogical situations as to where someone based in otherwise empty airport, for example Johannesburg, would have to build terminals when there are great ammounts of unused gates and it wouldn't seem that they would run out soon). It would however be easier to implement (although my solution probably wouldn't require extremely great amount of PHP code either).

However, both solutions would be better than current situation in my opinion.

#47274 Gatehogging

Posted by D.Y. on 12 April 2007 - 12:27 PM in Suggestions and Feature Requests

It seems there are a lot of discussions about gatehogging here. The proponents of it claim that it happens in real life too - but however it would be completely impossible to see an airline operating for example Paris CDG-Paris Orly route 40 times a day with Beechcrafts. As I do believe one of the main goals of airline simulation needs to be realism, a total ban of gatehogging would perhaps be bad, but this practice should be restricted to realistic ammounts.

In my opinion, this is what should be implemented:

After the airport runs out of gates (and there are no airlines anymore that does not use their gates) the airport would send messages threatening to revoke gates for all airlines, which fly small aircraft many times a day to the same destination. These airlines would have to switch to larger aircraft (if there is demand) or decrease frequency and, in order to keep gates, add new routes. Probably aircraft under 100 seats would be considered "small", this message could be sent to airlines which operate same route either over 5, over 7 or over 10 times a day with small aircraft and the ammount of gates to be revoked would depend on the ammount of such flights (leaving only 1 or 2 gates for same route).

Gateghogging therefore would still be possible, but more realistic - the airlines would have to operate more different routes; and due to the limit of airports close enough it would mean that the total ammount of gates possible to gatehog would be somewhat limited as well.

Another measure that might be implemented togther with this one is that after there are no more gates possible to revoke under this rule, airports would threaten to revoke gates for airlines which use small aircraft to fly to it (at first 19 seats, then 30 and so on; the ammount of gates to be revoked would depend on the ammount of gates used for flights with such aircraft), therefore forcing the change of various minor local routes to major ones and, over the time, further realistically restricting gatehogging (this measure would however effectively remove newly registered users from major airports later in the game, therefore is probably more controversial than the first one).

These measures in my opinion are realistic and goes together with interests of the airports.

#47260 -Read First- AE questions and answers -FAQ-

Posted by D.Y. on 11 April 2007 - 11:58 AM in Game Discussion (SIM2)

1.How exactly is the "Yield" value calculated in the "Routes" section? Is it how much a single passenger pays per single nm of route lenght on a single round trip?

2.Regarding ordering planes - is it still so that you have to have only 50% of money at the time of placing order and that you could use your credit to pay for gates in case you are in debt? As I have read some contradicting information.
