3. Vanguard Airlines Convair 880M

In 1959, Vanguard Airlines became the launch customer for the Convair 880, placing a firm order for 8 airframes. These aircraft were intended to replace large piston prop airplanes on key routes from Memphis, Houston, New Orleans, and Detroit. Additionally, they were used to fly from Houston out west to Las Vegas and other destinations in California. The Convair 880 served with Vanguard until 1974 when they, and most of the older Boeing 707s were replaced by newer aircraft.
