Cornering the market on every route and filling up the order book on Day 1 is literally impossible considering airlines only start with $7.5-100 million depending on the world.

 

Sandbox worlds are meant to be super short, the 5 minute time seems to work out well to allow them to constantly reset. Realistic worlds being realtime would alter the gameplay too significantly in a way I believe most players would dislike.

 

A "market study" or similar feature would just be a bit time-consuming and impede the ability of players to make routes easily.

 

You may call it impossible, but that's the routemap I saw when I looked at Cathay Pacific.  Calling me a liar does not change what I saw.

As airlines only start with between $7.5 and 100 million, it is literally impossible for one airline to establish nearly every major route on Day 1. Since spamlining is the most profitable currently known strategy, this is the strategy one must adopt to earn the largest profits. Sandbox worlds are intentionally designed to be unrealistic, with their short day lengths and lack of awards allowing for more casual gameplay. From my experience the special worlds and R4, R5, and R7 seem to have the lowest spamlining presence so if you dislike it that is where I recommend creating your airlines.

Then how the hell did I see Cathay Pacific with such a route map on game day one?  That's what I saw in the sandbox I was playing in.

I want a world where spamlining will get an airline kicked.  Nothing less will do.

To be honest, I'm all for anything that ends spamlining.  I don't mind a constant expansion model, but having someone essentially corner the market on any and every route and filling up the aircraft order book before the end of the first in-game day is just ridiculous.

 

Keep the model, but slow things down.  Even in sandbox worlds, make it 20 min/day, and in the realistic worlds, make it realtime.

 

As far as the "instant demand figures", I'd suggest adding a "market study" function to replace that.  It should cost money that scales with the size of the market.

 

But I'm out of the game until spamlining is ended.  It just isn't fun for me.  I'll hang here in the forums and post my livery designs instead.

My last game, a spamliner deliberately glutted every single one of my routes, turning what was a modest postive cashflow into a disaster-level loss.  I was flying 717's, he flew 747-400D's on puddle-jumper routes!

 

Who does that?  I have an idea, but I won't say the name here.

 

That just isn't fun, and that's what I'm here for.  Until it gets fixed (in at least a few worlds where spamlining is banned), I'm out of the game.

Yes!  Make some where the trophies are NOT based on things spamliners do, and that the very act of spamlining gets the player booted from the game.

 

I just want to play a game where I can try to dig myself out of the negative cashflow one has to have at the beginning and become a successful airline USING THE INTENDED RULES.

I thought I had just such a game when a spamliner came in, killed demand on every single one of my routes, and turned what was a nice positive cashflow into a disaster-level loss on every flight...

 

Really, I just want a world where I challenge myself with minimal competition.  At least until I'm ready for a realistic (within the game's limitations) world.

Exactly!  I just shut down my third attempt at a game (one where I was actually making a profit for a while) because a spamliner calling himself Cathay Pacific established nearly EVERY SINGLE MAJOR ROUTE with so many planes that NOBODDY, but NOBODY could compete BEFORE THE END OF THE FIRST IN-GAME DAY!  I'd establish a profitable schedule, and next thing I know, this spamliner comes in with so many flights on those exact routes (even little puddle-jumps with 747's!!!) that I'm losing money on every single flight.

 

And that's in a sandbox world!

 

No wonder so many people have left.

 

I'll hang here in the forums, but until spamlining ends, I'm out of the game.
