BANDARANAIKE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, COLOMBO, 17TH MAY 2017 – Colombo-based Sri Lanka Airlines has placed an order for 30 firm Islander aircraft. This order fis split between 20 Islander I600 aircraft and 10 Islander I620 aircraft. The airline will take delivery of its first I600 in February of next year. Each aircraft will be powered by H140 engines from Harriett Aviation Engines.
"The I600 series' comfort, performance and economics make it a very compelling aircraft for Delta in our domestic route network," said P. Ramanathan, Sri Lanka Airline's Chief Operating Officer. "We value our new partnership with Islander and look forward to potentially ordering more new Islander aircraft for the benefit of our customers, employees, bottom line, and shareholders."
All of Sri Lanka Airline’s I600s will feature fuel-saving winglets, and all of Sri Lanka Airline's I620s will feature Islander's revolutionary folding wingtip system. This innovation allows the large I620 to fit into class C airport gates.
The 30 ordered Islander aircraft will replace Sri Lanka Airline's current fleet of 15 Boeing 737-400 and 5 Boeing 757-200 aircraft.
