The Shimojijima airport (RORS/SHI) is currently spelled Shimokishima and needs correction.
However, because the Japanese languge allows some interchangeability with 'shima' and 'jima' (both means island; Japanese language decides which reading to use by standards of "which sounds nicer in the word?"), the corrected name can be either Shimojishima or Shimojijima.
Both readings are acceptable to read 下地島.
Please also note that Okinawa prefecture lists Simojijima not Shimojijima, but romanizing し as 'si' is not common in Japanese (e.g. 広島=ひろ'し'ま=Hiro'shi'ma, 渋谷='し'ぶや='Shi'buya, newspaper 朝日新聞=あさ'ひ'しんぶん=Asahi 'Shi'mbun, etc. etc.). Therefore I as a native Japanese speaker do not think it necessary that the first 5 letters of this airport be changed at all.

Facebook page of this airport lists Shimojishima

Tripadvisor lists both Shimojijima and Shimojishima in their website, also proving that both readings of 下地島 are acceptable.
Because my English is second language and I am trying to explain many things at once, it may be troublesome to understand my point. If so, please let me know and I am willing to attempt cutting down the reasoning, answering questions, or whatever that may be necessary to clarify my point.
Thank you,
