You may not know this, but in it's later years the MD-80/90 was not reffered to by being made by McDonnell Douglas, but Boeing(Boeing MD-80). This is because when McDonnell Douglas was going bankrupt Boeing bought McDonnell Douglas. That is how the 717 was born.
Thus, The Boeing 717 should be in the DC9 class with the MD-80s because they shared the same parts. Not in it's own class like it currently is in AE.
