Designed for the commercial run to New York from Bremerhaven and Hamburg each ship has a reinforced hull; doubling in thickness 15 feet above the waterline extending all the way around the hull, including their double bottoms, propeller shafts and rudder, giving them superior capabiliites during winter. with 60 watertight compartments that can be individually closed in case of a hull breach, and excellent fireproofing, they are considered the safest ships on the North Atlantic.
