On-time performance unrealistic?

30 April 2012 - 09:40 AM

Hi. It seems that on-time performance calculation may be unrealistically strict.

For example, my A333 in R6 operates SIN-HND-SIN daily, leaving 26 hours weekly, which is around 3.7hr daily.

This means that the aircraft actually has 4.8hr downtime as the game only allows around 22.9hr utilisation daily.

In addition, the unutilised hours already excludes the turnaround time for the aircraft, which is 1.25hr each leg, 2.5hrs daily for my A333.

This means that the aircraft has a total time of 7.3hr daily (3.75hr each leg) for turnaround. This is a long time in real life, but the OTP rating for the SIN-HND-SIN route is still in the yellow range. Are the standards for OTP ratings too high?

By the way, my employee morale is 96%, so I don't think that affects the OTP much.

Question about IFS ratings

25 April 2012 - 02:50 PM

Hi. I have a question about star ratings for In-Flight Services.

Is each star rating a single value or does it cover a range of values that determine the overall IFS rating?

For example, I can get a 3-star food rating just by having a single choice of worst quality breakfast.

If I actually up the quality of the meals and include more choices, even lunch, dinner, and snacks, I still get a 3-star food rating.

Is this second 3-star rating the same as the 3-star rating for the first settings, or have my ratings actually gone up, but not high enough to show a 4-star rating? Will the 2nd settings actually make a difference to my IFS rating?

Thanks

Aircraft Hours Pooling / Fleet Management

20 January 2012 - 05:57 PM

I have a suggestion for future versions of AE regarding the way aircraft are scheduled on routes.

Currently, every aircraft is given 22 hours a day to operate. Every aircraft must be placed individually on routes based on the number of hours it has left to fly.

My suggestion is to consolidate the hours on every aircraft type, so flights can be scheduled based on the aircraft type and not each individual aircraft.

For example, having 4x A320-200s will give me 88 hours a day to scheduled A320 flights. This allows me 88hrs of flying time for my A320 fleet. Buying more A320s will increase the flying time per day for my A320 fleet by 22 hours each.

This presents a more realistic approach to scheduling, as airlines schedule flights by the aircraft fleet, and not based on every single aircraft. It can also simplify aircraft utilisation and route placement for aircraft fleets.

This seems to be a rather drastic change in the way the game operates, but I feel that it will not only make the game more simple, but much more realistic.

In-flight service

Hi there. I have a question to ask about IFS.

I know that IFS are rated 1,2,3,4 or 5 stars but is there a specific unique value to every different configuration?

For example, is a 3 star rating exactly the same as every other config that gives 3 star rating or are there still differences in terms of the value behind the stars?

I ask this because this may cause the IFS system to be exploited by airlines choosing the cheapest configuration that will give a desired star value. Just a random example, choosing 5 star meals may give me the same number of total stars as choosing 3 star meals. In this case, does choosing 5 star meals still give me the same results in terms of quality of service or are both exactly the same as they both give me 5 stars.

If the latter is true, I suggest the IFS rating be more detailed. This could take into consideration every item that a person selects and adjust the value accordingly, eventually probably giving a percentage based rating, instead of a rating that is limited to 5 stars.

This will motivate airlines to offer better service as they grow and are able to afford better products, as this will in turn increase their ratings.

Just my thoughts.
