Well, expected really. Qantas apart from those 8 A380s order, also has on order 4 A330-200s and a further 5 B737-800s.
Qantas guess is looking at making sure all of its trans-pacific flights from SYD/MEL to LAX and perhaps SFO are all A380s. Not only that, perhaps get the upper hand against SQ, in building up a bigger fleet than its rival. I guess SQ LOI for more A380s prompted Qantas further.
Nevertheless, im sure Qantas got a sweet deal for the A380s, especially considering the delays. Then again, if the A380 does match its performance target, then im sure Qantas will be very happy.

Airlines would be crazy not to uphold their orders or even order new ones. Never before and never after will they ever get an A380 at that price.....

True, very true.. An opportunity like this doesnt come by very oftened...
Though, Qantas as of late, are becoming ruthless in regards to aircraft purchases, in trying to minimise any expense they can just to keep profits up
