So like the title says I need you help figuring out what the major difference is between the 744 and the 744ER. The reason I ask is just because I don't understand why anyone would buy the 744 over the 744ER. The price is less for the "ER" and it has better range. Are there any disadvantages to the 744ER?
Suggestions: 744 or 744ER

Worse fuel burn I think. Also the cost-per-hour might be worse.

744ER has a higher seat cost and longer turnaround.

On certain routes...limbo happens to be an expert at "round trip times" hence why you often see him with A310s and A300s...they can do round trips on certain routes that A330s can do...its due to turnaround times.
And pertaining to the 744ER...the extra range isn't that much better...but the costs to run are much worse from my experience. The 744 handles much better. But at either rate...no one should really be contemplating 744s with the A380s around...

Like Wings already said some routes are just a few miles!!! too long for a 744-ER to do a returntrip while a 744 can cuz it has a 10 min shorter turntime . Same and only reason why you'll see A333-200's in my fleet .. they can do return-routes A333's wont doy wont a 744er do a return trip?

I have a 744ER, and I like it. Lower purchase price, no range issues, and only a marginally higher operating cost. However, I intend on making the A310 the mainstay of my longhaul fleet.

Well thats a new one...A310s for main longhaul...you know what ya doing...have fun...oh and...no offense but could ya list your fleet horizontally like me and many others...takes up less room in the sig.

Well there's no need to worry about overcapacity

If anything....under capacity.
Then again...when I got my 744...it was towards the end of the round and from metroline...got it for like 40-50mil undervalue, and it was a much smoother experience than when I had bought a 744ER much earlier in the round before. Back then it flew MCO-NRT...then after someone came onto the route...minnakht i think...it became impossible to fly that route...and I couldn't put the thing on any other route profitably...so i just sold it.

"-You don't want to put the A380 or 747-400 on a route. Ever. If you want to put as many seats as possible on a long haul route, then fine. Just don't expect even a decent return-on-investment. Same with the A300s and A310s."
Digging up some research I did.

Well that's a bit dependant on circumstances .. But if you got a strong hub @ a large city , and flying to a decent destination it's very possible to get $1M dop routes :sdrool: On the other hand if u just put them on a random route where u got no hub on either end , it will be a deathtrap as soon as competition shows up
