Olá, y bienvenidos to the first annual Latin America Design Contest! The idea of this contest was simply that - an idea that had come around about two years ago. Taking notice of the seeming lack of quality Latin American brands here on the forums, we wanted to put the skill of research and design to the test with this challenge.

Similar to the aim of n.x.w.m and Boeing707’s East Asia Design Challenge, we want the designers of the submissions for the Latin America Design Contest to delve into Latin American design aspects and, by extension, the culture that makes up the vibrant region.

With that, we hope that this first iteration of the Latin America Design Contest will bring out the creativity within all who participate and breathe some life into the exciting region of Latin America.

Good luck, buena suerte, e boa sorte!

f3wF3va.png

Ara is a Brazilian carrier operating short-haul flights throughout Latin America. The airline was founded in 2010 and grew rapidly. Currently Ara has 70 Embraer aircraft, and another 40 Airbus A320 family aircraft.

The Ara name comes from the parrot specie 'Ara', which is one of the most common type of birds seen in Brazil/Amazone. The logo is a geometrical Ara representing the colourful country of Brazil. This livery was introduced in 2010, when the airline was founded.

AUM/UMA was founded in 1990 with 2 Boeing 757-200's and 4 McDonnell Douglas MD-88's in 1995 the airline leased 4 MD-90's and bought 2 used McDonnell Douglas MD-83s, it's main customer base was charters arranged by travel agencies in the US by the mid 1990s the airline looked to change its focus and was figuring out a path to launching more frequently scheduled passenger service, so it put in a lease for 20 Boeing 737-800's  and 10 Boeing 757-200's. By the late 2000s the airline had grown to 40 Boeing 737-800's and 15 Boeing 757-200s. In the late 2000s the airline decided to order some Boeing 787-8s to begin some longer routes and higher volume routes, now looking towards the future the airline is in talks with Airbus for A320neo family aircraft, to replace the airline's 60 Boeing 737-800s and 15 Boeing 757-200s. The airline is considering buying around 100-120 planes from Airbus. When the airline announced talks with Airbus after pulling out of talks with Boeing that it was looking to select Pratt and Whitney PW1000G engines for its new modernized fleet.

UMA flies to many destinations around Mexico and the United States and Canada as well as around the world with its 787s.

Scorpion's Temple is the first Boeing 737-800 delivered to UMA/AUM it was delivered in 1999 on lease from Boeing as N734BC it wouldn't become XA-RSH until the airline bought it from Boeing Capital in 2010 and installed winglets, it hasn't gotten satcom installed yet but it's been in the works to take it out of service to schedule that install for around a year now most of the airline's 737s and 757s have Satellite connections

Chichen Itza is the first Boeing 787 in the airline and it was delivered in June of 2013 as XA-CSY

Samba (BSB)

Samba Final
(Click to see the image larger because the preview is very small)

Samba is a major Brazilian LCC based in Brasilia with focus cities in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. It's a fairly young carrier with roots going back to the turn of the millennium in 2002. The original idea for the airline's brand identity was penned on the back of a napkin in a restaurant, including the smiling logo and slogan "Seu amigo no céu" which translates to "Your friend in the sky". It started operations with high frequency, high density flights between BSB and other major Brazilian airports and was moderately profitable with a small fleet of aging MD-80s retired from mainline service in the United States. However, that all changed in 2017 with a rash of major airline bankruptcies which led to a surplus of lightly used, newer, more fuel efficient aircraft and several cancelled orders from now defunct carriers. Samba was able to rapidly expand its fleet with A320s and A320neos, phasing out the archaic McDonnell Douglass fleet. Today, the airline has expanded service across South America from Brasilia, Sao Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro to great success and larger profits due to an increase in network connections and fuel efficiency. Pictured above are 2 of their A320neos; the top PR-SVG sports their normal livery and was purchased lightly used from defunct a Icelandic carrier. PR-IDE was purchased from Airbus after a British leisure carrier's bankruptcy lead left the nearly completed airframe without a destination. PR-IDE is in a special livery to celebrate the 2019 Brazilian Supreme Federal Court decision to treat discrimination on gender identity and sexual orientation as racism. You may notice that the size of the stripes on the aircraft is inconsistent; this is most likely due to an error in the paint-booth and Samba not wanting to pay for a repaint. However, the Samba CEO claims that the different stripes were intentional because "[A] fleet of aircraft all in the exact same livery bores me to no end. It [the stripes] are different to reflect the dynamism in our airline, unlike the static paint schemes of so many other carriers." Most recently, the airline has been in talks with Airbus to procure A330-800neos for long range operations, but wether or not these plans pan out remains to be seen.

Latin_America_Design_2020_Notice.png

Please note that reservations must include the base city at minimum. Failure to include such information runs the risk of your planned country being capped as according to the amendment to rule 5;

Each country is capped at three airlines in total submissions.

Another rule to be reminded of is to disable your signature in your post to reduce the clutter in this forum. Another note would be to please edit your post should you forget something rather than adding another reply.

That being said, the following country has reached full capacity. All entries following this period that are based in this country will not be eligible.

Brazil

Thank you and once again, good luck! Buena suerte! Boa sorte!
