Where'd you sit, back of the aircraft? I know most people have their own preference as to where they sit on an aircraft. I prefer forward of the wings on most aircraft. Less noise that way.

For me it depends. If I have work I should be doing, as far away from people as possible. But if I haven't been on a certain type of aircraft before, I like to sit just behind the wings, so I can watch the wing operations.

Today I got 1C, on my first leg. Woot! Not much better than a first class aisle seat for a good start to the day. Made up for the run-of-the-mill 733.

My second leg, I took 4A. I had never been on a Dash-8-200 before. Right beside the engine. That I liked. No arm rest, didn't like that. But it was pretty cool watching the landing gear fold into the engine pod.

Flew a NW Saab 340 once, cool as hell, but I coulda sworn the cowl was going to come off that thing...what's a little dynamic pressure between friends?

I prefer sitting a few asiles after the wings...in the perfect spot to see flap deployment, and the ailerons and spoilers work. That or right up in front so I can see the turbines and front flaps/droops, and a bit of spoiler at work.

Or right up in front, aka First/Business Class for reasons of my own :P....although I haven't actually had that experience yet....

Behind the wing, IMO, is the place to be. One of the things I've been most surprised by over the years, is how little the outboard aileron is used, and how much the spoilers are...keeping the bending moment at the root down is aparently a huge deal, as is adverse yaw...

It varies...the outboard aileron is normally only used in the slower speeds in early takeoff and late descent. Unless you are on a narrowbody, then its used all the time cause...there is no inboard high speed aileron.

Time for an update...

My seat assigned was 7A on the Beech. But that never really matters, as they will move people around for weight distribution. I swapped with the guy in 1A. WHen the FO asked if I wanted to move, I told him if they were leaving the cockpit door open, I would rather stay there. I love to look out the windscreen. So they left the cockpit door open. Beautiful day for such a short hop, and it was a great view.

When I got to PIT, I asked about the aircraft. The gate agent told me, that US Express just provides a generic aircraft code. She said that US Express didn't own any ERJ-135's that she knew of. So I got 3A on the ERJ-145 to ORD. Love the single seats.... Good flight, about 65% loaded. Had to take the northernly approach to ORD to avoid some T-storms. Capt. informed that we may have to divert to RFD if the storms tracked towards the north.(I wish we would have, I live 20 minutes from RFD), But by the time we made our final, it was good enough to land. Just a few bumps, for even such a small jet. That single seat has a CRJ's beat all to heck, even though the seat pitch feels more cramped in the ERJ.
