If I created the 797 I would have the plane only having one engine instead of 2. The engine would be different and not round. it would seat between 180 to 240 and have a range of 4,100nm for the regular version. (Medium Haul). There would be an option for an Extra long haul, 6,300nm

I would also have an option for 2 engines if the airlines didn't like the one engine idea

797-100

797-102 (Two Engines)

797-100EXLH (Extra Long Haul)

What would your specifications of a 797 be for your idea if you were creating the design?

  • Composite aircraft.
  • Long single-aisle, with a cabin width 9 inches wider than the 737 or 757, to allow Economy Class seats to widen from 17.3 inches to 18.8 inches.
  • Aircraft designed for primary boarding and deplaning to be through L2 door to speed up boarding/deplaning on long single-aisle aircraft.
  • 100% Space Bins or equivalent, to ensure one rollaboard for every passenger will fit in the overheads even after taking out some bin space for crew and emergency equipment.
  • Three sizes:
         - 797-8: Sized to replace 737 MAX 8 + 737-800, compete with A320
         - 797-9: Sized to replace 737 MAX 9 + 737-900 + 757-200, compete with A321
         - 797-10: Sized to replace 737 MAX 10 + 757-300, offer a bit more seating than A321 to offer a "true" middle-of-market aircraft.
  • Single type rating and mechanical type replaces both 737 and 757, allowing Boeing to compete with Airbus in having short and medium missions with same type rating.
  • 4,250 nm "schedulable" range (you can schedule flights up to 4,250 miles long and still have required reserves).
