In every way, shape and form the Boeing deal made a lot more sense. It reduces training costs associated with fleet commonality (Like Delta and the 787 order they inherited from Northwest) as well as maintenance costs and just makes like easier for American. American already has a very good profit margin and new planes and fleet commonality will only make it bigger.

United is expected to get their first A350-900 later this year I believe, so I don't think they're going to ditch it completely. They deferred some A350s which were to be delivered in 2022 to 2027 so these ones might get cancelled, which I still doubt.
