I've been finding that many real world airline configurations of the 747 haven't been quite as profitable as I've hoped. What are some good ways to configure a 747-400 that'll still maximize profits?

I get decent profits with 8/10F | 40C | 312Y, no idea if that’s realistic but it has a good legroom rating :P

That's pretty realistic, honestly

I did 52C and 490Y with a 65% rating. Not too bad and profits were nice.

Seating:

F= 2.5

C= 1.6

Y=1

anytime you make a configuration that does not equal a whole number you are wasting space, such as 52c

52*1.6=  83.2

you are wasting .8 of a seat on nothing, bad idea.

Leg Room:

Leg room starts at 66% for a full plane.

Lowering capacity 33% will bring leg room to 100%

Have a goal. Make a seat plan to fit it.

Total seating on a 747-400 is 660 in this video game.

Ask yourself what level of legroom you wish to offer, and use math to decide seats.

Rounding first class to a whole number and business class to multiples of 5 will ensure you maintain maximum efficiency.

8/50/x

6/40/x

10/60/x

12/55/x

all of these work just fine... tune it to the exact route if you have the time or are striving for some other role playing goal.

I use 14/66/375, 72% legroom, a little heavy on F but it gets the job done

I mean I use 8F/42C/350Y or 326Y and I find the profits very good even with good IFS and IFE.
