Okay... let's all admit it: None of us really fly JFK > LAX and expect no competition. However, most of us can benefit from smaller airports located in larger cities. I'll share some of my favorite "smaller" airports for the "bigger" cities:

- Burbank-Hollywood (Amazing substitute for LAX)

- Toronto Billy Bishop (short runway, though)

- London City Airport (ditto)

- Charlotte Douglas (98% of the people on AE don't know what it is, and 2% don't care.)

- Dallas Love Field (Everyone knows Fort Worth, why not give Love Field some love?)

- El Paso (everyone forgot what it was)

- Richmond (It's a pretty important city in Virginia. Might be the capital. Just a slight chance that it may possibly could be the capital.)

- Manchester (London gets all of the attention, very few people operate to Manchester.)

Fell free to share some of your favorite "smaller" airports for the "larger" cities.

P.S. If you own a "godzilla" airline and plan on spam the **** out of smaller airlines that are starting up, why not spam on some of the more popular international routes, such as Newark > Heathrow or London > Dubai. If you really feel that airlines that operate a single flight with a single leased plane is a threat to your empire, then you are a terrible person. There is simply no other way to put it. A baby that lost both legs in a car crash is abandoned on the street by his parents. What do you do? Kick him in the chest. Spamming unpopular routes flown by baby airlines is the same thing in this game. Why not make an alliance (or invite them to your alliance, there is a messager function) and give tips to the baby airline? Why make enemies when you can make friends?

P.P.S. That was a bit of a rant, and I am sorry for that.

P.P.P.S. wtf does p.p.s and p.p.p.s. even mean? Post-post-post scriptum?

I'm doing an "as realistic as I can get it" game in R0 based out of Love Field

Don't go to Love Field.

The problem with going to smaller airports is that just enough people have the same idea as you that the level of saturation scales the same as the bigger airports.

The A318 is a beast. It is like an oversized CRJ fuselage with an A319 wing and engine... oh wait...

I agree. It's all about chance. Sometimes you can operate out of a large airport with only little competition but its never certain. Although of all airports I've flown to since starting AE, I get into the worst price wars at ORD, LHR, and MCO.

Never start at LHR, JFK, or LAX. Just don't even think about it.

If you can't avoid big cities, consider these alternatives:

Brussels instead of Amsterdam
Gatwick or Stansted instead of Heathrow in London
Newark instead of New York's main airports (JFK and LGA)
Burbank instead of LAX in Los Angeles
Orly or Beauvis instead of CDG in Paris
Bergamo instead of Milan's main airports (Linate and Malpensa)

Perhaps these suggestions could work out :)

-Frankfurt Hahn

-Kyiv-Ziulany

-Ottawa McDonald-Cartier International (Considerable Demand one of the "Big 4" in Canada, even though it sees less Passenger service than Winnipeg on days)

-Ogdensburg, NY (Alternate to above)

If Allegiant are able to brainwash us,I think Ogdensburg should have a lot of demand, MD-80 is the largest that can land there I believe.

Note : Canadian Airlines DC-10 in CPAir Livery.

obviously, it depends on your size and timing. on my only (currently operating) airline (in S3-A), LHR was my first international destination. I also entered LAX many years after the game world started (maybe 10 years?); other airlines were already well-established there, but it's currently my most profitable destination. If you're big enough, you can probably enter any huge airport unless a big spamline has set up shop there (you can still enter, but you'll be forced to create long-haul routes). Also, if you're early enough and you have time to change prices on your routes, you can definitely enter a big airport.

Going out of US, we may think about South Korea, China and Brazil.

In South Korea it is usual give exclusive attention to Incheon Airport, but also in Seoul there is Gimpo, the second largest airport in the city. And you might get some profit in Jeju Airport as well.

Moving to China it is also very very common Beijing Capital be the center of attention. Of course, that is a huge airport, anyone can deny this. But you will have a large profit if you look for Beijing Nanyuan, an airport that the most don't care, but is as large as Ningbo, for example.

And last but not least we have Brazil. You should not go to Rio in your first flight to Brazil, because the brazilian largest airport is located in Guarulhos (GRU). Then we have Galeão (in Rio) and Brasília (which is the country's capital). Pay attention to these tips and you're gonna get better in AE.

In China there is also Tianjin Binhai, which is about 150 miles from Beijing and is also a massive city.

Well done! I didn't know about this airport as an alternative to Beijing. Thanks!

Palmdale had United/SkyWest up until a few years ago, and Volaris service to San Bernardino is set to start soon.

Except they can’t in real life, there’s a jet ban at YTZ. I wish they would implement this in the game. Q400 is the biggest plane in real life.

Yes ik.

But i have a big airline, I could lobby for use JET aircraft with Takeoff restrictions to comply with excess sound regulations. Like all aircraft operating in London city.
At the time that the Sound restriction issued of no jet on YTZ there was noisy jet engines.

The runway is already a restriction,

Porter is working pretty hard to get the runway slightly extended into the lake and have the jet ban lifted, because they want to operate CS100s out of there... They could offer a YTZ-LCY service with the CS100, and obviously tons of other markets too.... And the CS100 is quieter than the Q400s, so hopefully they get it.

Nice

And there are other problem, there are not a lot of space in the airport, reason i dont open hub there with my airline.
