I'm at LMML right now. This will be the last flight I take from Malta in most likely forever.

I'll be staying in Brazil until the 9th of January, where I'll go and greet my new home in Los Angeles.

I understand that this topic might be locked because it has nothing to do with anything, but I'm just so saddened and frustrated right now and I can't hold it in. Everything and everyone that I loved will be out of reach and I don't know how soon I'll be able to come back to reconnect with them.

Sure, Malta might be an tiny developing country-in-disguise filled with retired Brits, an undecipherable language, and god awful traffic, but when you live the greatest 13 years of your life there, it really starts to feel otherwise.

Everyone here is close. Like in other countries, you either know everyone or know someone that knows everyone. We are all family here, and nobody can break that. Community is one of our greatest traits, and couple that with a great climate and a proximity to a bunch of cool places that you can go to, and you really have a place that you can settle down in and maybe have a pastizz while at it.

If I could, I would just cancel everything, waltz back to Żurrieq (my home town), and stay there for life, because that's how much I loved it there.

But no. Life changes, and you can't have everything for so long.

You might not understand. You might not care. But that's okay.

I don't know anyone else that moved 11.000 kilometres away and has barely no connections to what they grew up with and barely anyone to relate to in the place that they end up living. That's okay.

Life is something that is never the way you want it.

So, yeah. I really don't have much experience with LA aside from staying there a couple of times, and I don't really know a lot about what goes on there (aside from The Donald, of course).

But wish me luck. The next part of my life is about to begin, and it's gonna be a bumpy ride.

I myself moved almost 8000 km's away from my lovely home in Suriname and my life was horrible the first few months in The Netherlands, but I got used to things and now I'm doing great! ^_^

I'm sure you'll get used to things to. Goodluck and enjoy life! :)

I'm preparing for a 1000 mile move across the country which doesn't seem like much but when you grow up where I did, moving is something that doesn't often happen. There's a huge culture shock from town to town here, and across the state borders and the country borders.  Also, this is something I really hope you do, but become involved in our country. You're coming to the best country in the world, regardless of opinion. America can be like a choose-your-own-adventure book. Take advantage of that. You are what, 13? This move most likely will change your life, and you can become literally anything here. I know the LA area has a lot of flight schools so that could be something to look into. You're also close to a lot of technology stuff. I wish you luck, stay away from the snowflakes and the fires that are melting them.

We fled South Africa to Australia some 13 years ago, ( My father worked in the secret service against the government). We moved from Cape Town to Brisbane - a 11700km move. We knew no one, had no friends or any family there. It took us a good 6 months to a year to fully settle into our new home but after living there for over 8 years it truly felt like home and I was actually so glad we did leave SA, considering the postion they now find themselves in. After 8 yrs in Brisbane I moved alone to Auckland,New Zealand- once again a 2300km move. I was once again completely alone in a new country, I moved here to study Air Traffic control and went through pases of depression etc beacuse of my lonelyness, But once again today Im as happy as I have ever been. Im engaged and have tons of friends. My brother now live in New Zealand as well so at least I have some family here. Trust me it is very overwhelming to be alone in a new place, especially a place as big a LA, but you will be fine and happy after a while! see it as a challenge to yourself!

Goodluck, Im sure you are going to have fun.

If you don't go to In N Out and order a Double Double, Animal Fries and a shake you can consider your move a complete failure

Thanks, everyone.

I landed in Guarulhos a few hours ago and breezed through customs. We went exploring Stockholm since we had nothing to do during the layover and it was actually really nice (albeit cold).

Done that already the last time I went to LA. I usually get the Cheeseburger though, I can’t taste the difference between it and the Double Double.

Nope. Unfortunately, we saw some guy in his car get in a fight by another guy in a motorcycle on the 150 to Santos.

Well I've done a lot of moving for someone my age and travel a lot. Los Angeles is great city although I do suggest flying from Burbank if your going domestically, LAX is kinda a cluster**** depending on the airline. (I find United does a bad job of organizing everything)

But I moved form Chicago to Sydney for about a year and a half before coming back state side. It was a hard move but my dad had already been their for around a year so we had already met people.

I'm sure once you become settled and start school you will figure everything out. Get in clubs play a sport (soccer, football, basketball) find your community. I haven't been to Los Angeles in a few months but it really is a great place, I hope you enjoy it :D

I get it. Not quite the same situation for me, but we moved between the UK and Argentina once every 3 years or so.

I'm a dual citizen, and because I moved back and forward (my parents work in medicine and were often moved by their agency whenever there was a shortage in the NHS or a private hospital in Argentina), I had to take 2 sets of exams, keep in touch with 2 sets of friends, maintain fluency in 2 languages over several years of speaking only one of them.

It's difficult to move, but once you settle in, you're ok. Be glad that your move is likely long term. You'll make friends, start to fit in, and find your place. Good luck!
