Maybe i am confused but is the purpose of the alliance to allow your fellow alliance members to dump 100s if not 1000s of seats on your route that you already have maxed?

Many forum alliances have a no-competition policy where everyone gets along and has a great time :P However many alliances which are only in-game have the issue of not having rules or anything, so they just hack away at each other's routes and get the extra pax at their hubs because of the alliance.

Ya you should apply to a forum alliance. Universal, at least, has a no-competition policy. Try it out! :P

Strictly speaking, a collaboration between various selected AE members or airlines. Vary from simple ingame alliances with no rules and literal all out competition even within the alliance to forum ones which have been established a long time and routinely have no competition or at least route codeshare rules (no adding to a full route, sharing out route demand etc.).

There is no such thing as "maxed" when it comes to the number of seats that you happen to be able to fill on a particular route.

Obviously, if those seats actually have paying customers occupying them, then those thousands of seats you say are "dumped" on a route are anything but!

So, since no one can control how many seats are "dumped" on a route by anyone else, and no one wants to compete against such a competitor, the fundamental question is, What can you effectively do about this?

The most profitable answer is to maneuver in such a way that you and that competitor(s) are co-existing without competing.

To do that, you must create a hub at one or both ends of the route.  The more total passengers you already have, the more effective this maneuver is.

If there is 400 coach pax a day on a route and i put 390 coach seats a day on it and then someone comes along and dumps another 800 coach seats then that doesnt seem like they are looking to coexist with me. friend or foe.

Once you create the hub, no matter how many players and seats are "dumped" on that route, your seats won't be affected, even if fares go down to $1.  Rather, how many seats remain filled for your airline depends primarily on the total number of passengers you have on all your routes combined.

Once you understand this point, you will find that  ~all~ seats on a hubified route are coexisting with you, i.e., they no longer are in contention with you for a limited number of seats per se.

On the other hand, if you create the hub but have a low total passenger count among all your routes, you will find that only a few seats that would be lost are actually regained.  This means that presumably, as time goes by and your airline's total passenger count has significantly increased, you will be able to re-visit the route and hit the save button again, and more of the vacant seats will be filled; perhaps even all of them.

The more hubs you create and the more you connect them, the more powerful is the effect.  As your airline grows sufficiently massive, you are essentially living in the Airlie Empires equivalent of THE MATRIX: "There IS no competition"  (Believe it or not).

So, no more excuses - now you know.

For me, the reason I join an alliance is to get the reputation rating up. I honestly don't even check whether the people I'm competing with are in my alliance.
