I've entered the fuel flow, speed, lease, turn time, seating data on every Western aircraft available in AirlineEmpires that carries over 50 passengers and was in production since 1970. I wrote a formula that assesses the potential value of each aircraft that can be summarized as the profit the aircraft would generate operating a route 80% of its range, divided by the cost of the aircraft.

A large plane with a rating of 800 will make far more than a smaller plane with a rating of 800. However, a fleet of smaller planes that cost equally as much to lease total as a single large plane will make the same amount.

The formula does not include maintenance, and because fuel cost varies wildly over time (and I chose an average), it is not fair to compare plane ratings from wildly different time periods.

The full repository of values (and a finder feature) can be downloaded from Google Sheets here: http://tinyurl.com/planerate. Here is an example of the Finder feature in use:

If you're unfamiliar with spreadsheets, etc, I made the following easier charts that show the best aircraft (by value) in each category.

^ Correction, Boeing 707-320B should be in the 150-250/5000+ slot.

This is impressive. Both spammers and realists can actually use this.

How do you use the finder? It doesn't seem to be working for me.

1. Make a copy of the file in your Drive (this is under the File menu in the toolbar).

2. In your copy, enter the plane criteria.

3. After you've entered the plane criteria, sort the "Available Scores" column by Z to A by pressing the green triangle next to the name.

4. This will bring the highest scores of all planes that meet your criteria to the top of the column and make them easily viewable.

5. Repeat step 2 and 3 when you change your plane criteria.

Thank you this is amazing.  The only suggestion that I have for improving is look at the rankings going back to 1950.

I love A330-300s, best aircraft, efficient, low procurement cost, low depriceration, fuel efficient, adequate range etc etc, I used to get “min” 15% extra profit/revenue from route when comparing to any other aircraft of it’s category, especially 777-200s. Also it is one of the early launched modern aircraft, so I can buy in large numbers. Typically by the end of the game world, I might be operating more than 500 333s.... And the aircraft is flexible too, can be operated efficiently medium ranges to ultra long haul routes, very much versatile!!! As of now ie 2005 in O1 (1990-2020) I own more than 290 333s and more than 180 in orders too. Will snatch more when it appears on Used markets 😅😁
