If you could bring one defunct airline back, which would it be?

California Pacific (technically it never went bankrupt because it could never get certified). It was started fairly recently (2009), a few miles from my house. It was planned to be a low cost regional domestic carrier based at McClellan-Palomar north of San Diego.

We live nearby, then. I'm just East of SD.

Yeah, I was pretty hyped for Cali Pacific too. You don't see many new airlines these days, if at all. I think the youngest are Allegiant and Virgin America, and they only exist because they're branches of bigger airlines.

Nowadays, starting an airline is near impossible.

Yeah Ted Vallas is still working on getting CP Air up and running, but it's officially considered defunct. (P.s. I'm in North County)

I think that PanAm should come back. PanAm was really great.

I dunno, with all the crap it went through, would Pan Am even be able to survive the post-9/11 aviation world? TWA couldn't, and many American carriers almost didn't.

PanAm is totally beyond reviving. Lockerbie killed Pan Am.

How long ago where you in ZA? Velvet flew, for like three months before going under. There name wasn't a help, apparently.

'Cause I was born there, and it was fun flying from LGW-HRE-JNB. Now, they don't really fly much. Far better than old, somewhat racist SAL/SAA.

World's safest airline, Air Zimbabwe.

I'd love to see B'Cal back again. Maybe they'd give BA a better run for their money than VS. They did a good job while BA was state run, just a shame about the oil price drop in the late 80s killing all the premium demand on the only major routes B'Cal was given.

oh ZAP TP Fan the last time I was in ZA was For holidays in 2014. They actually flew for just over a year I believe from 2011 to 2012. And I flew with them numerous times in 2011 when they were still active. Except for the name they were better than SAL or Kulula or even Comair. only Mango rates better in my books. I never flew 1time or nationwide so cant comment on those.

You need to come back for another visit. Things are dead cheap now. Like a full spur meal for $5. Yes, Mango is pretty good, but I find BA SA to be slightly better, although I can't fault SAL either.

Wow things definitely gotten cheaper! I probably wont leave for another 2 years or so. Waiting for my citizenship to come through and will fly there after that. Always nice to return to my country of birth even though most people think I fled South Africa. on the topic of SAL - I have only flown them international to cant really comment then on domestic services. I only really made a general observation.

Yes, I guess that many people will believe that I, too, am a Traitor, leaving SA for Norway and adopting two Norwegian Children. But, then again, SAL did sweeten the deal for me to leave. Although, I hear it's going the other way now, with diversity quota's and all, due to too few 'white' applicants.

Still, think that Velvet Sky is a bad choice of an airline to bring back though. I mean it didn't even last for a year as an airline :P
