On short/medium haul high-volume routes, is it a good idea to use bigger planes to save gate costs and generate more profit? Or should I stick to narrow body. For example, right now the choice for me is B737-200/DC-9-40 vs A300B4/DC-10-15. Thanks.

Depends on fuel economy of each individual type. DC 10-15 and 9-40 are both not worth considering, so stick with 737-200 or A300B4. (and widebody/narrowbody - that's purely your taste!)

I already have 50 of the DC-9-40 and 95 of the 737-200. I got the DC-9-40 so that I could get deliveries faster. I already have the A300B4 and am considering using the DC-10-15 or possibly a 747 with 555 (747-100) or 400 seats (747SP) instead.

Sometimes, on a short route, (e.g. MSP-BNA), when I place a 747 on a route, it generates a higher profit than a 757. But some other times when I operate a pretty much equal route, the 757 or even 737 produces more profit (with more frequency, albeit). Why is that?

may be bigger aircraft burn more fuel, and charged higher landing fee. not sure though..
