This is AE's place for the fabulous members of society. A civil place to show your colours and be merry. I stress civil. All folks from all walks of life are welcome here, be they gay, straight, bi, or miscellaneous if you so choose. Remember this is a cool, safe place, so ground rules be in order, and they are as follows:

 

- If you happened to not agree with the lifestyle, or hold issue with it, please express it in a manner that would make people think you a barbarian. It's better that way.

 

- Related to the above, this is NOT a place to discuss whether homosexuality is "right" or "wrong" 

 

- The closet is a place for GLBT affairs and discussion, for straight people to do any poking or prodding they need to, discuss life's problems, chat about almost whatever, and most of all to NOT be negative with each other.

 

- Most importantly this is a place to relax, have fun (but not too much fun, or the mods will get mad), post pics if need be, and crack a joke or two. 

 

Okay, now that that's over with, let the discussing commence!

Yuuup. Pretty nice result seeing DOMA struck down. Next hurdle though is to get more states to allow some sort of legal recognition... Otherwise the you receive no rights in those states.

I'm sure it'll happen eventually. Learned something surprising but not surprising though, Apperenly homosexuality is a no-no in Singapore, which surprised me because Singapore likes to flaunt its developedness, so I was always under the impression that they'd be okay with it. But at the same time it's right next to Malaysia and Indonesia, where it's fun to be non-Muslim and especially gay .

Hijacking a dead thread, because I think I've to explain to Steve what I explained to Oggy about homosexuality in Singapore.

Singapore criminalises gay sex (Penal Code 377A), but doesn't give a flying flute about lesbian sex. But the gay community goes on having their gay sex and announces it publicly too though, so I believe Singapore is more like, uh, closing one and a half eyes on it. If you actually go to gay sites like Trevvy or Blowing Wind, which are both focused on the Singapore demographic, you actually find many threads on people trying to find areas to gay cruise not just in town, but in neighbouring Johor Bahru (which is Malaysia ). If I'm not wrong, the more intriguing ones are that there are actually reviews on massage services which I believe may or may not be /just/ massage services, and also locations on gay saunas (which are like a euphemism for places for wild gay sex, gay orgy and cruising) in both Singapore and Malaysia. And when you actually see these gay saunas advertising on these websites, you kinda know that Singapore's gay sex law mayhaps be more of a form of retaining social order. After all, the conservative sections of society (well the prudes you might call them, or the older generation which don't really have a conceptual understanding of people being gay - not their fault, really) do still exists. So in essence, they keep the law, but they use the law as if it was existing in the first place. Singapore today is a whole lot liberal from just 5 years ago, when Sir Ian McKellan caused a major stir by asking where he could find a gay bar.

This would be from the days when Singapore was a British colony no? Lots of former colonies have laws that outline such things.
