I need some input from fellow AE'rs out there on or about aircraft deliveries...

I'm assuming (you know what they say about assuming...) that the deliveries are based on "real time/real life" deliveries and a/c are delivered accordingly to who orders and who doesn't.

Now my question is, If someone is a "Launch Customer" for a certain a/c type, why are they 1) not the first airline to take delivery of the first a/c model off the assembly line and/or 2) why do they have to wait another 2 to 3 years for delivery of the first model type to be introduced while other airlines have about 5 or 6 of that model already in service while you end up acquiring your 1st one...why is that?

All feedback welcomed...Mahalo!

"Launch customer" is the first airline to order a plane.  This need not be the first airline to receive a plane because of the way deliveries can be adjusted:

1) I order 100 757-200 and then pre-order 1 757-300. This is the first -300 order so my airline is the launch customer, but the -300 will not be delivered until all -200 models have been delivered.

2) I pre-order 5 757-300 and then delay the arrival of each plane so that all 5 planes arrive on the same date.

I do understand what you're saying, but what gets me is, why don't the manufacturer at least deliver one or two of the a/c type in between the deliveries of other types...even if you got 100 B752's on order, but you're specifically waiting for that one B753 to get delivered.

Mahalo for the feedback.

I think it would be a nice addition if we could decide our delivery dates for our aircraft, keeping to the minimum 1/2/3/4 weeks between deliveries, I think it would also be good if you could order 100 ATR 72's and pre-order 2 ATR 42's but make the deliveries so that you can get the ATR 42's as soon as they are available.

e.g.

ATR 72 family (these dates are theoretical)

1-ATR 72-500 18/05/2000

2-ATR 72-500 27/05/2000

3-ATR 42-500 10/05/2000

4-ATR 42-500 19/05/2000

5 ATR 72-500 30/05/2000

Do you get what I mean?
