I'm operating the Boeing 737-800 in S1. When I ordered them I made sure that I had winglets so I could use them to fly up to 3500 miles (range without winglets is around 2500 depending on the engine). Anyway, when I added it to a route that was 2801 miles long, pax was reduced to 132 because of weight restrictions. This shouldn't happen because the plane should be able to fly up to 3500 miles. Why's this happening?

The 737-800 can fly 2500 mi with a full (pax) load of 189 passengers. (irl + cargo) The 3500 mi is the range without any payload. Any trip between 2500 and 3500 mi length gets a payload penalty to make it that far. You can have your 738 fly 3500 miles but you just can't take any passengers.

but it says range with winglets: 3500. Does this mean winglets are pointless?

I do find this confusing as well. When ordering a new plane the order planes screen gives the adjusted range with winglets, but not the maximum payload range within winglets, which I would find a lot more useful.

When it shows adjusted range it takes the max range with no PAX. I.e. If I took a 738 with CFM56-7B24 engines it has a max range of 3,397 miles. With winglets it has a max range of 3,510 miles. SO winglets do something. Also the new "sharklets" on Airbus's only add another 100 miles or another 100 lbs to its flying capability. So just add 110 miles to the 2548 miles with 189 PAX you get 2658 miles with winglets for 189 PAX. Math!
