I currently go from iah to dfw on an 8 passenger embrayer. I was looking for a plane that seats at least 50, can go about 800 miles, and not something quite as big as a 737. I prefer jets but am open to all ideas. My airline is Continenatal Airlines (based in houston) and i am a star alliance member.

In the 80s

Bac-111 is the best but the DC-9 has to most more sentimental value

It is like A320 to 737

A320 Family is better but from a sentimental point the 737 is better.

1) I fail to find a 8-seat-Embraer, but nevermind
2) if it has to be a jet under 100 pax, choose between the 1-11 and the DC-9. Which one you choose depends on how you want to expand in the future; staying around/below 100 pax: Bac 1-11, plaaning to expand someday with bigger jets: DC-9.
If it can be a prop, look at the DHC-7 or the HS 748: Both have about 50 pax and can fly 500/1200 miles with a quite good fuel flow and runway performance. Lateron you might want to get ATRs/Dash-8s or any regional jet.
3) that depends: ERJ family (35-50 pax): It comes out 1995 to 1999
E-Jets (80-114 pax): first available around 2003, the bigger ones follow 2005/6 iirc

I would use CRJ200 series before I use the ERJ family..........better fuel and range usage.

In your current time frame, the BAC is about the best you got, until the BAE comes out and then the Avro. DC9 are okay, but fuel heavy.

hs748 is a good regional turboprop for routes with lower demand presently in R3

I didn't buy any more of them because I was busy enough ordering larger aircraft and filling routes

the DC9 may be ok-ish, but I think the 737-200 adv is much better, compared to the dc9-50 fuel flow is 25% lower, and range is 2000mi, compared to 950mi for the dc9, price is similar, and fuel flow is lower than any dc9 in any case, so it's more efficient to fly a 737-200 adv even with a partial load

the dc9 family is very limited in range and IMHO they become obsolete very quickly

I'm keeping them for now because the lease is very cheap

CRJ seems to be better overall, plus you have more flexibility regarding pax and range in the same family, while if you opt for embraer you only have the 35-50 pax family and then the 70+ family, but you would have to use 2 different families.

Q400 is by far the best. Dirt cheap, long range, and 78 seats! Me likes! Also a big fan of 717-200 (mostly beacise I'm losing airtran on May 13 :(. I might just replace my 7372as with them- comparable range ande capacity, better cost and fuel flow... Once again, me likes!!

Btw... Why couldn't SWA take them! Why did Delta have to ruin everything!!! Since Starting sometime this morning I'm going to be stick with American for controlling 98% of everything at my airport, why couldn't they give them to American? I hats he McDonnell Douglas, they run all over creation! Had to fly on one once- bated it. Now this makes me dislike SWA for abandoning the 88-member 7172 fleet they brought up like a child under Airtran and at Boeing for stopping making the dream jets back in 08' too >( Sort for b****igt off, American and Delta just make me mad. Grr.

AA had 717s, and they got rid of them quickly. Same with the ex Reno Air MD90s. Didnt fit for them.

The 717 deal is sweet for delta, because ita a direct replacement for the remaining dc9's and they are spending much less money that buying new and getting aome pretty good planes.

I thibk the AA/TWA 717s made their way to airtran :whistling:

AA has no need for an aircraft the aize of the 717. At least not currently

How true regarding Delta.

Right on regarding the AA/TWA 717's.

I am just now looking at this thread again. I am sorry. I really have nothing against Delta except for still operating DC-9s in 2013. And making the airport not but 4 hrs away by car the largest airport in the world, leaving many international carriers to go to ATL instead of ***. BTW, can anyone guess my airport. AirTran's gone on the 13th, big hub, close to ATL? But I haven't put my name or city yet. I hope SWA treats *** well.
