no, trains are not a good idea. Remember, high speed trains are expensive and take up a lot of space.

In Holland (Belgium a little bit) nad France its already being realised, so why not in the rest of the world? And no, they don't take up much space, we tunneled a lot of the track here in Holland

Dont forget some countries cant afford/dont want to spend money on public transport. Look at Ireland, its a joke! We finally have an agreement to get a second terminal at Dublin airport by 2015, but that will get rid of the Cargo terminal, and no replacements are budgeted. The current goverenment promised us a new terminal to be operational well before now, but it looks like its not going to happen till 2015, if not later.

EDIT: Look at the Eurostar, is that ever going to turn a profit?

i know money is an issue , but if you look at the facts it is the best way , at least i think . eurostar is needed , i am thinking of something like it but taking shorter routes , FRA-Berlin , FRA muc at most . if this was connected by a train , deprting both airports , big enough and no airline operating that route (all of them left to leave place for the train . every airline rents a part of it and sells it . )such high numbers would generate in a low cost per seat while save the world most . Imagine all the polution from the start of big airliners every 1 hour . it climbes , flies 10-15 min. and goes down again . that just isn't reasonable . the trains but maybe take a few lot min . (they don't have to taxi) , get filled by INT'L Hub pax (the airport take over all , ALL iNT: traffic then ) costs a little more , but saves the world a lot . get my point ?

yeah actually thats a pretty cool idea, but i think it would cost alot to implement it at the start, although it would pay for itself quickly

I think that we will use ethanol for a while (already used in cars with about 85% petrol 25% Ethanol and SAAB make cars that run on pure ethanol) and then latter Hydrogen. Trains are a good Idea for short trips.
