IATA codes are used for for airline timetables and ICAO codes are used for flight planning, air traffic control, and weather reporting. If an airport doesn't have a IATA code it will most likely have little to no commercial traffic, and if there is it's most likely to be small scale domestic or charter traffic, and will not appear in any reservation system.
Good point.

Agreed, AE should stick to IATA, of course unless the TS is willing to do all the work collecting the ICAO codes for every single airport themselves...
I liked TW and it's gone. NW, and it's gone. CO, and it's gone. Pray I don't like you.

Liking the ideaIt doesn't have to be one or the other - in fact, we have both in the system - but being able to sort/filter by ICAO in addition to IATA codes would be a good addition.

I Would like the ability to search airport codes in capitals...and airport names in lowercase. its a pain to type in "BOS" and get "Boston regional"
Yes! Yes! Yes!

if theres going to be all this energy
burnt up working on something that would
be humongously helpfull. add the distance
or miles from to the arrival side of the
route management screen. or even trade out
the open slots inplace of distance.
really, i'm willing to bet that when it
comes down to it. more players then not
would rather have the distance added to
the arrival filter then to have to wonder
if their airpot has a weather station or not...
IATA ? ICAO ? who cares ? ?
do something good that let's me NOT have to
use a paper and pen ever time my airline get's
better then 50 routes......
please.

Let's take this a step further. Why can't there be a filter where by default it assumes that you are typing in an IATA code (LAX) unless you specify icao:klax or name:los angeles? Better yet, have a setting in the settings to specify which field you would use by default (IATA/ICAO/Name) and then use specifiers (iata:hnl / icao:phnl / name:honolulu) for the non default searches?
EDIT: I suppose the name specifier would be useless if the field would automatically assume name search with 5+ characters and no specifiers...
It's really me, now. #backtoAE

And, can you make it find the ones with most gates by default? It's irritating to get Angelborg-Helsingbwhatever when I try to find either Helsinki or Singapore
