Might this be a good idea?
A limit to the alliance size.
This way you don't get these alliances which just invite everybody, so they are the biggest alliance and have the biggest advantage.
In real world I think alliances of like 50 airlines would be torn apart by e.g. the European Union as it would be considered as a cartel.
I suggest a limit of 10% of the world. With a 300 airlines world this means a limit of 30 airlines.
With this limit, alliance owners finally really take into consideration who they want in their alliance. This also might start up more of a competition between the alliances to get the best airlines of the world in their alliance.

My alliance was #1 in R4 for the last 10 game years. Oh yeah, I was the only member of it.
Mine is currently the sixth-largest (out of 23) in R2. Probably will be fifth-place soon.

^I don't want to put a limit on the alliances based on pax, rather on members.
And no, I'm not from Cyber Airlines I'm still new here. R2 is my second world.

Bad idea....
Alliances should be free to have 100+ members if they like.....
And anyway..... It isent the size of the alliance that matter but the airlines in it....

^That's why alliance owners will begin to think of who they invite/admit.
