Aircraft that flys faster than the speed of sound should have a "sonic boom fare increase" because if you take these aircraft and fly them at normal fares, it'll NEVER make profit. the reality that Britsh Airways and Air France's concorde charges over $6000 for a round trip from london to new york, that is why we should be able to recive passangers even though the fare of a sonic boom aircraft is 5 times the normal fare.

This has been looked at before, and it ended saying that the speed would be taken into account in the reputation of the route ;)

However, this would really only address prop/standard jet issues. Here, rep would generally be affected, whereas with the concorde, the speed is so great that charging more should be easy. A 100% vs. 0% rep generally gives the ability to charge no more than 20% more. As has been noted above, a concorde has a Y+ style seat, yet charges first class prices due to its speed. Therefore, we need better handling of aircraft that can reach more than Mach 1.

The real reason for BA's Concordes being profitable was that BA worked out that everyone thought that concorde tickets were more expensive than they were, and the rich thought the prices were too cheap. So by putting the prices up, BA managed to turn a profit on the service. As usual, the French didn't work this out....

Concorde is already in game. :P

I believe it was only a branding exercise on a BA-owned concorde - partnership on LHR-BAH-SIN, which was not popular with the Indians and Malaysians, leading to its demise.

This is a fair topic, their should be greater demand based on the aircraft used, maybe include the age of the aircraft used, if an airline operates a new aircraft compared to a competitor using 20+ old aircraft, with only a slight jump in fare price, its clear which airline would have the stronger reputation Posted Image

With regards to Concorde, BA & Air France got financial support from government, due to the Anglo-French development and manufacture partnership, had it not been for the financial help its unlikely either airline would have been so keen to use Concorde as it would have been a great risk due to the high operating costs.

I beg to differ. A newly refitted aircraft that is 23 will usually be similarly received to a 2 year old aircraft, if not better. Age is better left to overall rep.
