Good morning,

I just started a Canadian airline in the theme game starting off with some low pax routes, such as YEG-YQU (250 mi, 8C/60Y demand) with a DHC-6 at 14 flights per week. I'm operating at a shoestring just to stay profitable (no IFS), but when I look at the route finance chart, I see that "other taxes and fees" are eating up most of my expenses, making the route barely in the green.

How are these taxes and fees calculated? Also, does anyone else feel that these taxes and fees disproportionately affect carriers on low pax/low capacity routes than routes between larger cities?

Thanks!

Hm. I seem to remember having a similar problem with airport fees or something like that.
It is probably a bug as I see no justification for taxes/fees that are five times as much as the other costs.

This is an issue with AE small planes. Essentially, the taxes and fees are almost the same as for a larger plane, the taxes and fees aren't affected by plane size much.

Hmm, so I guess in real life routes to small airports are partially subsidized by the government (the same government taking all those taxes and fees) but that's not in AE (yet?) Can we make taxes and fees more dependent on pax delivered instead of total number of flights? In a way, that would partially level the playing field and make it more attractive to open routes to very small airports.

Or can we add a "Bribe local politicians" feature where taxes and fees magically shrink to zero? (I'm kidding on that one)

We recognize this issue and will make the taxes/fees scale with aircraft size and/or passenger count before the beta ends. :)

almost 2017 and the problem persists :)

My local flights in Canada are being charged up to 50% of the total expense of the route!

50% other taxes
34% fuel

2% landing fees

8% cabin crew
...

The plane is an ATR 42-400 in this case.

I have a route between two airports in Poland with a 20 seat plane, and about 50 percent of my costs are taxes/fees (this is SZZ - WRO in S2). I guess the update has not yet been implemented? It would be cool if it was, so people could grow airlines from using turboprops. My understanding is most taxes/fees are per passenger?

This thread was last posted on over a year ago. Even then, it was dug up after 5 years. I suggest that you start a new thread as much of the information on this one is no longer relevant or up to date.

For all who wants to know, other taxes and fees are specific prices for the flight. It vary if it is domestic or international.
